So which is it, wiseguy? Is it true or false that the components of Marxist belief are popular amongst ordinary working class people? Btw, where are you finding these people who disagree with the concept of ownership over the things that they made with their own hands?

"Components of Marxist" belief seems to be a weaselly caveat. "Components" of all sorts of views are popular among people of all kinds of stripes. That's a widely different claim than 90% of the public thinking what a "DSA Marxist" believes if broken down point by point.

To wit, "you should be allowed to own what you make with your own hands" is a banal assertion accommodated by all sorts of points of view, up to and including Lockean liberalism, which is far afield of what a "DSA Marxist" might think.

That's not even accurate. You're describing the primitive mode of production. Marxists assert that ownership of the means of production should be shared by the workers. Not even just because it's right, because the role of the capitalist is unnecessary and parasitic, and isn't sustainable.

I understand Marxist thought. I was responding to a direct quote where someone tried to motte and bailey the idea of being Marxist by describing a widely agreed upon banal statement as if it was idiosyncratic to Marxism.

This is the equivalent of saying 90% of Americans actually agree with the views of your standard libertarian party member and responding to "No they don't" with rhetorically asking if you think people would agree they should be free from government coercion of their expression.

That's actually a really fair point... Libertarianism is literally co-opted and twisted anarchist thought. It shows how easy it is to steal the language of the left and make it serve the interests of capital.
