No. But they do like being told that the system is rigged against them. Trump is basically convincing his base that he has to rig the system because otherwise Democrats wouldn't allow this self-evident permanent majority to win future elections. Not sure that argument is inconceivable in the UK.

Indeed - & that's one of the many dangers of authoritarian democracy. But it's striking that even Trump has to frame this as *defending* the integrity of elections. That claim is false, but it matters: he's not telling supporters that he's rigging the system, but that he's stopping others rigging it

Of course, nowadays authoritarian regimes do not get rid of elections. They get rid of the risk of losing them.
