What are the odds that it will take another 50 years to knock 2025 out of the top 5 hottest summers? AFAIK an AMOC collapse isn't likely to be soon enough to stop the continually rising trend in the medium term.
Pretty much zero. I imagine it'll be out of the top five by 2050.
2003 is already down to 4th so could be out of the top 5 by 2033.
Given that since 2018 we're now going at a rate of one top five summer per ~four years, if anything it's statistically likely that 2003 will be out of the top five by then. Realistically you only need one more 2025 and then a summer with properly extreme synoptics. That seems likely by 2033.
I think my use of the word "could" understated things. I think it would be very unlikely that within the next 8 years we don't have 2 hotter Summers than 2003. By 2055 it will be unlikely to see 2025 still in the top 5.
It was 3rd in my personal records but I'm an amateur with limited technology. There was little difference between 2018, 2022 and 2025. The one consistent thing is that this is the new normal
