It’s Berta’s job to persuade a club to pay more though. Kiwior has been good, improved during his time at Arsenal, reliable when given a run, lots of PL + CL experience and a full international. In this market, a good DOF extracts maximum value for him. We’re getting less than Chelsea got for Veiga!

He’s on a higher wage and Porto are paying near a record fee

Yeah, but that’s the issue. Why Porto? Find another club who could pay a higher fee that he’d have been interested in. He’s a good, experienced, reliable player. How many players do you expect will leave this summer? The first team squad is currently at 29 which is much too big imo.

It's been widely reporting multiple PL clubs are interested. Porto is only kiwiors preference and a much lower fee. We are far too nice

He’s pretty much gone for his market value. Same as Kiwior seems to be based on Transfermarkt. I don’t imagine Porto offered what had seemingly been agreed as a first offer, so imagine the club have negotiated what they deem a fair price with a club the player seems determined to join 🤷‍♂️

Guessing his TM market value is partly dictated by the length of his deal, because Chelsea decided quite quickly he wasn’t good enough for them/PL, whereas Kiwior clearly is. We’ve got a reputation for being poor at selling, and that’s not a good thing. At some point we’ve got to change that.

But Kiwior clearly doesn’t want to play in the PL and short of Madrid, Bayern, PSG or Saudi no other club has that cash. I’m not sure the reputation is anything more than fan and media led, given we got around £100m for ESR, Balogun and Nketiah over the past couple years.

We got ~£77m for those 3 (per TM), but the ESR deal sort of proves the point. Couldn’t sign Calafiori until ESR was sold. Year before we had to do a Raya loan, year before that no Kudus due to no room in budget/PSR. Better sales would’ve helped with that.

We’re not Chelsea and we don’t play moneyball on stockpiling young talent for marginal gains over a couple of seasons. It’s just not how we’re set up. Anyways, lovely to chat. Think we can agree to disagree on this and hope for a great season.

Not suggesting we do that. More that we should sell the players we don’t want/use much earlier. Nelson + Nketiah should’ve been sold before contracts had to be renewed on big money etc. Also, we could’ve sold Trossard this summer but bumped his wage instead. No worries. Hopefully now is the time!
