Steak 'n Shake is owned by Biglari Holdings, founded by Sardar Biglari — Iranian immigrant multimillionaire and supporter of Trump. Biglari bought 4.7 million shares of Cracker Barrel in 2011, and failed seven times to take over the company. Trump supporters will buy any “MAGA-branded” bullshit.
Wasn't it just 3 years ago that Steak and Shake shut down a bunch (majority?) of stores and then offered franchises for $10k and free training and free business consulting?
It feels like closer to five or six years ago? But yeah, it was inane. (The one that opened in my town down here was awful and chronically understaffed, up until it closed two years later.)
Happy to report the Steak n Shake in my town is now boarded up and abandoned. P.S. Their fries are trash, regardless what they’re fried in.

The change is that they got rid of the old white guy at the literal barrel of crackers. Personal opinion is that both logos are awful, but neither are objectionable. They're mad because a company that was sufficiently discriminatory in the '90s to have a consent decree made things more inclusive.

Didn't the magats go ballistic a short time ago when Cracker Barrel merely OFFERED the choice of plant-based sausage? The company didn't remove anything, they simply added another option. These people are just spring-loaded in the irritated position as my sister likes to say.
I'm from Illinois, I remember when Steak 'n Shake had decent food and a fun vibe.
From St. Louis originally, and same. Spent a lot of late nights at Steak N' Shake locations in my younger years.
When they closed the original location, the nail was in the coffin. (I'm from Bloomington-Normal.)
I didn't realize the original was gone. My parents had their first date there (my mom went to ISU and my dad went to Wesleyan) back in the 1950s, so the chain was always something of a family favorite. So sad to see what the current owners have done to it.
Dad said it was flooding from Sugar Creek that made the location unsustainable, but Monical's Pizza took over the building and is still there. Whoever owned Steak 'n' Shake by the late 90s just didn't want to put in the maintenance. And then they got rid of the non-orange freezes from the menu.
I got to ISU after the original closed . It think it was decent until it got too big and sold off. Equity firms are doing a lot of damage to society, but ruining regional fast food chains is unforgivable.
I'll eat some Avanti's for you when I go home for Christmas.

We had two here. They lasted about 18 months. One’s a taco place and the other’s a Starbucks now.
There’s one in Pasadena and yes, the food was bad.
Freddies exists, they make fries that aren't cold by the time you get them, shoestring fries can be crispy.

The legendary one in Nora was torn down to build a Crew Car Wash, and I can’t even be mad, given the corporate heel turn.
Plus this is hilarious since Biglari abandoned the Steak n Shake original model of casual dining and turned the whole chain into quick serve restaurants with kiosks and automation. He is the one who went woke as in woke up to the fact he was going bankrupt as a casual dining chain.
