I honestly don’t think many of those concerns are realistic either—Chinatown is getting redeveloped over the next 20 years bc of where it is & how old the buildings are. It’s too close to DTLA to stay low-slung, & the ethnic enclave is just generationally shifting. The anti-gentrification discourse
will just make it worse bc it’s nostalgia for a simulacra Chinatown & reactionary “left” coded Cracker Barrel nostalgia that leaves communities struggling to adapt in healthy ways to structural changes
100% correct. We know this to be true because this is the nonsense we did here in SF and our progressive “anti-gentrification” (which is really just anti-development) displaced anyone making less than $100k per year
I think there’s a big freaking difference between someone who complains about the Cracker Barrel logo and someone who might be concerned about a giant gondola system shuttling people above their homes & community at all hours. They at least deserve to get the regular review process.
