I think the general societal assumption is that it’s ‘normal’ until you have a partner/spouse or until can afford to live alone. Roommates is more a 20’s-30’s thing à la Friends but it’s all generalizations. It’s unusual in the late 50’s bracket but so is being a political assassin so who knows?
