What is the best tasting protein drink? I hate stuff like this but I need something for after I work out.
What is the best tasting protein drink? I hate stuff like this but I need something for after I work out.
Fairlife chocolate protein drink.
They abuse animals and packaging falsely labeled as recyclable
www.courthousenews.com/upscale-milk...
Premiere Protein. Chocolate peanut butter flavor tastes like a Reese’s peanut butter cup😋
My other favorite is cafe latte.
Boost Creamy Strawberry is the best I’ve come across.
I like Orgain best (vegan, made w/ peas) to make smoothies with real fruit. Use a magic bullet. Fill 1/3 the cup crushed ice 1/2 C crushed pineapple 1 small banana 2 scoops protein powder Fill with coconut water Blend well.
Fairlife Chocolate 1Up Nutrition Clear Protein - Lemon - tastes great in your workout bottle
I like Pea Protein based drinks. Something with chocolate (a powder) if you don't mind making it in advance to your workout. Put it in a nutribullet and add your fav. fruit too.. like a banana & strawberries. Quick, tasty and good for you. "Organ Orgain Vegan Protein."
Muscle Milk & Dimatide
High protein, low carb, great taste. Costco, BJ's, Sam's, check the packages to see which is best bargain for a case.
Isopure unflavored. It has no chemicals added in. It's whether protein & something to keep it from clumping. It has *almost* no taste, so you can mix it with fruit or cocoa powder or peanut butter & have any flavor you want.
*Whey protein (stupid auto correct)
Muscle milk chocolate. I prefer the non-dairy version.
I heard that many are eating the cats and eating the dogs… but it’s only hearsay.
A big game changer for me was to mix up in shaker bottle hours before I drank it - it helps the texture
I just started Boost this week. It’s not bad.
Joyce - in my view nothing beats chocolate milk from your favorite brand/ dairy. Lots of protein, lactose and a creamy consistency. Most of the “protein drinks” ar are basically soy, often with unneeded additives. Love yr legal takes on our current political mess. Elizabeth T. (retired MD)
Isn't that milk for calves tho? Speaking of calves... where do they go when ripped from their mothers so you can drink their milk?
My husband is partial to Boost extra chocolate.
I swear by Element Chocolate Lava Cake. Simply yummy. Two scoops in 10oz of water and you get 46 g of protein!!
I've been adding ground flaxseed to things I make. It adds a nutty taste to things. Flaxseed is one of the highest seeds containing protein (18%) and also helps raise your HDL (good cholesterol). Add to most anything like shakes, cereals, baked goods. I even add a little to my homemade ice cream.
I love Unjury protein drinks, the chocolate. You can get them ready made. They aren't horribly sweet, like some are.
Optimum nutrition gold standard whey powder with milk and fruit blended to make a shake.
Vanilla - I always add some vanilla extract too to make it extra vanilla-y
seriously, just eat real food. make scrambled eggs. processed fake foods are NOT healthy at all.
Premier powder shake made with milk & whipped cream on top.
Premier Mocha. 30g protien, 1g sugar. To me it tastes like Chocolate milk w a little kick 😋
I like Equip, it’s not cheap but tastes good and only a few ingredients 👍
Chocolate milk! 😋
Premier protein chocolate peanut butter
Homemade protein smoothie
No plastic bottle. One ingredient. Blend it with any milk (I use almond). Add flavoring if desired. I add MCT oil for creaminess.
Premier I get them from Sam's, Amazon too. Most of them have 30 grams of protein.
Strawberry milkshake from Stake N Shake
This is good tasting stuff but hard to find. Haven’t tasted the chocolate
Target
Thx - I don’t shop at Target but I can find it at Kroger.
Drink a glass of Chocolate milk; chocolate (sugar for carbs),Milk for protein. Read this in an interview of someone with a background in nutrition & PE.
Progenex.
I like Muscle Milk's chocolate mint. I ordered it in bulk in my gym bunny days.
I use the Fairlife shakes but they are spendy. So instead, I buy Fairlife 2% and add PE science protein powder. Close to same macros and waaaay cheaper per serve.
Also, don’t snooze on clear protein. It is perfect after a workout without the bloat dairy feeling. I use My Protein brand and sometimes add another drink packet to boost up flavor.
Fairlife power core 42g milkshakes. Easy to drink, good flavors.
Adds even more plastic bottles to a world with too many already.
But not good for the cows. See post above
3rd Fairlife, usually find them at Costco
www.courthousenews.com/upscale-milk...
I 2nd Fairlife Core Power. Delicious.
make your own shake and add protein powder--I use Birdman (vanilla is chalky, choc is much better) and it's vegan
Chocolate milk
Koia or Bolthouse
Scotch.
Orgain vegan protein powder from Costco.
Pioneer seems to taste good has milk that has had lactose removed
Fairlife is a bad choice if you care: www.courthousenews.com/upscale-milk...
OMG! I thought they were the opposite! Damn.
Microplastics galore
Thanks for sharing this. I only buy it when my stepfather comes by. Will stick to something else
Extreme abuse to the cows. Do NOT support Fairlife
Thank you for posting this. Awful company
Ues. Lived there and it’s true sadly.
Didn't know this. I will quit buying.
Me too! 😬
Thanks for posting.
Glad you brought that up. I never buy any of their products.
Guess they should change the brand to Poorlife.
Ensure max protein
Are you thinking a pre-made drink or a powder? For powder, I really like Designer Wellness gourmet chocolate. Blended with some almond milk, PB powder, and half a frozen banana...yum.
Chocolate milk with unflavored whey protein?
I’m liking some of the flavors from @ghostlifestyle.bsky.social right now. I’ll be place another order soon.
Fairlife protein. 26g, 30g or 42g. A little more expensive but doesn’t have a chalky taste.
Fuck @fairlife.com
Fairlife is supposed to be good stuff, but the years-long animal abuse charges against their dairy farms are substantial and horrifying.
I’ve never seen or heard that. To be fair, I stay away from the news as much as possible to preserve sanity.
If you're curious to learn more, here is a 2023 article: "Coca-Cola’s Fairlife still sourcing milk from abusive farms, animal rights group claims" | Food Dive share.google/o9c4L4v4uXgw... As of 2025, they're*still* being accused of abuse. They're chronic abusers. 😭
Ugh.
Glucerna chocolate has low sugar I mix in chia seeds
Beverly International UMP. Angel food is the best. I’ve been using this for over 20 years. Yum!
📌
Make your favorite fruit smoothie ahead of time and add in Designer Whey protein powder, this is the brand a trainer told me she felt was the best
I've done so much research on this. Nothing taste better than Premier Protein shakes. Chocolate is the best. (Don't let anyone talk you into Orgain. It's horrifying.)
SO MANY on here saying Orgain! I’m getting really confused 🤪
Ora Organics is great!
Eat some almonds or something. Protein powder is gross.
My wife swears by this product. rockinwellness.com/collections/...
The guy who founded this has a great story too.
I use this and like it a lot. No sugar. Add some frozen strawberries or blueberries and banana and it's a great breakfast boost.
Chocolate milk, pure and simple. Everything else is crap.
Fairlife 30g protein drinks. They don’t have the gritty protein texture and taste like drinking plain chocolate milk.
I use Orgain Organic Protein, Vanilla flavored, which is vegan. My favorite smoothie has ice, fresh strawberries, protein mix, and oat milk. I blend it - not too long - and enjoy. I see you have had hundreds of suggestions. I get the Orgain powder at Trader Joe’s. I’m a big fan of yours!
Orgain. It is organic, whey protein, with fruits and veg,and actually tastes ok.
Have you considered Kefir? Not super high in protein with only 9 grams, but multiple delicious flavors & have live cultures for good gut probiotics. Win win win.
Kefir tastes horrible to me.
This is great! fairlife.com/nutrition-pl...
My protein shakes always seem to end up being margaritas!
Ensure Clear exists and it's ok with gin
😂😂
I stick a maraschino in for fiber
Breakfast of champions!
You missed the gin fizz post keep scrooling!
Some people never give up. I'm dead. This is my new workout drink.
Hule is the brand I like the Chocolate is really good.
I don’t know about shakes, but Quest protein bars (white chic raspberry) taste better than any others I’ve tried and help me avoid fast food when I’m away from home.
Naked Whey!
Me too! bsky.app/profile/my2c...
Isn't it deliscious!
Yup!
Blitz Greek yoghurt with your favourite fruit. You’ll enjoy drinking it, and still take in sufficient protein.
Milk.
Buy the small containers of nonfat Greek yogurt.
Hands down Lean one!!
Shaklee has really delicious options if you don’t mind an MLM. Not premade though. Gotta add your own juices, milks, fruit, etc.
I usually make a post workout smoothie with low-fat goat milk, tbsp of nut butter, frozen banana, fresh spinach & a scoop of Naked Goat vanilla goat whey protein. Protein, potassium, carbs, + healthy fats. Commercial protein drinks are really high in sugar so I avoid them.
Just Move has flavors like Banana Pudding, Chocolate Cake and Sweet Potato Pie with 22 grams of protein. Here’s the link and no I’m not an Affiliate, just a fan of the woman who created it! justmovesupplements.com/collections/...
OWYN is good, especially chocolate mint
Protein drinks are dangerous. Look it up.
chocolate milk & whatever you fancy to add. I Don't exercise, but it & some toast are a good start to my morning.
You don't, drink water, eat more lentils. Source - vegetarian
Anything vanilla- or vanilla-cream flavored.
The vanilla flavor at Aldi is very affordable and tastes just like vanilla ice cream
I like Thorne whey protein isolate (chocolate) mixes with oat milk. Doesn’t upset my stomach and not grainy.
Diet Coke. Trump drinks it and look at the great shape he's in. He should put his face on every can. Imagine a can on every flag! (As far as the protein goes, you get that by eating your enemies.)
Pure protein. 30 grams each serving. I love the coffee!
I use Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard - Even the vanilla tastes good.
Use 😉
Fairlife is the best.
Arbonne’s is vegan , the chocolate is very tasty. I add banana and fresh strawberries every morning!
Aren't you glad u asked?
I like almased for protein and vitamins. Taste not great so I mix w silk unsweetened almond milk to keep the calorie count down along with ground cinnamon, nutmeg or other antinflamatory spices. The protein in this is soy.
Arbonne Fit chocolate shake or Meal Replacement shake and add frozen blueberries or avocado or nothing
Premier protein water is also good but hard to find
Premier from Costco
Just put it in your Magic Bullet and make your self a frothy protein drink. They have an organic version as well. That is the one I prefer.
Just eat an egg! No one except extreme athletes have any need of the powdered supplements.
Her chickens are too busy being pretty to lay too many eggs. Have you seen her birds? Gorgeous!!
Ice cream. I’ll see myself out.
Wait up, I'm going with you 😁
I like (in the blender)...a few oz of water, a scoop of unflavored protein powder, a couple of tbs of no fat Greek yoghurt & peanut butter, a handful of frozen fruit...30 +/- g of protein.
Eh…just mix that protein powder with water and suck it down. Taste eh, if you want taste, protein drinks might not be on the menu lol
Eat cantaloupe or sweet potatoes
both delicious, but not good sources of protein
Likely protein is unnecessary after a workout, but glycogen storage is impacted
👍
Protein. Fruit and veg have very little. You need protein after a work out to encourage muscle growth. Me, I also do creatine to encourage more. It has the added benefit, recent clinical research, of possibly preventing dementia. pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC...
Protein2o Waters are a nice change from the chocolate shakes. They come in a few different flavors. Found in Amazon and at some local grocery stores.
Fairlife shakes - 30g of protein, and they taste good! Hard to find occasionally, but I get mine at Costco and Costco.com.
Another vote for Owyn. Love the coffee!
A chocolate ice cream shake. Ok, that’s not being very helpful. 😉
Also at Costco. Often on sale. Also good.
That's where I get mine when on sale :D
I will never understand how people ingest this. It's like eating stale dust.
But have you tried this particular product? I've been through many, and this one genuinely tastes pretty good.
Two recipes I use. Approved by my nutritionist: 2 scoops organ, 1tbs flax seed, 1 tbs vital protein, 2 oz low fat kefir, 4oz almond milk, 8 oz soy milk or all of the powders and 4oz kefir and 8 oz almond milk. I alternate between the three and two liquid combos.
Did you hear the part where she said “best tasting”?
It does taste good.
Ugh! Tried some of this today and it tasted like chalk dust.
Did you just shove a spoonful in your mouth? :D I mean, you're supposed to mix it into stuff...
I DID! Yuck
That's what I use. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
That’s my choice
Came here to suggest this with: Fresh or frozen fruit Yogurt Garlic Jalapeño Ginger Lemon juice Flax seed Turmeric EmercnC packt Water
Actually, I take collagen called Vital that you can get at Costco. It contains lots of protein plus is great for joints and muscles. It dissolves in coffee or, what I do is add it to my oatmeal or yogurt. I also had about a tablespoon of CoQ10 liquid to it.
I've heard chocolate milk is one of the best things to drink after a workout. (Not kidding)
I just tried Garden of Life Raw Organic Fit. I liked the taste but found it to be a little chalky (maybe that was user error). It was really filling.
Gravy.
I like Tara's Whey - great tasting vanilla (which I often find to taste artificial).
Hydrolyzed protein’s best post-workout. Muscle Feast & Dymatize are pretty good: Muscle Feast Grass-Fed Hydrolyzed... www.amazon.com/dp/B00P9IV4L... I don’t like highly sweetened drinks so I prefer to add my own flavorings or fruit, which I can change with my mood. I tend to opt for unflavored.
Note: It looks like Dymatize has stevia now🥺
PowerCrunch & Think! bars are tasty, but they’re not hydrolyzed. Orgain pre-made shakes are tasty, as are Ensure Max. Fairlife shakes are tasty also. (I also try to avoid aspartame, stevia & sugar alcohols.)
Greek yogurt, milk of choice & frozen berries &/or mango, blended with a drizzle of honey is good too. You can also layer it in a bowl or mason jar, omitting the milk, & topping with some chocolate chips &/or unsweetened, shredded coconut for a tasty yogurt bowl. Frozen fruit is most refreshing, IMO
Add protein powder to that and boost the protein.
My husband loves Fairlife. I’ve just been drinking a glass of skim milk after my workouts.
Fairlife milk is so good. I protein with it every day.
Believe it or not, regular chocolate milk is almost perfect for a workout recovery. Something about the balance of fats and protein. Have known professional hockey league teams that mandated it to their players.
Backed by research: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29921963/
My first 5K they had bananas, bagels, and chocolate milk at the end, and I couldn't stop giggling at the preschoolness of it all. Which is problematic when trying to drink chocolate milk, I must say.
That reminded me of the childhood saying…say it, don’t spray it. 🤭
Beer, try cold.
My hubs used to tell me this…and then I saw the study that it kinda works😂
We have a local brewery that does a 5k fundraiser. Best damn dark beer at 10 am I've ever drunk. 🍺
Just make your own with frozen fruit and silken tofu and a couple of ice cubes in a blender. Add oats if you want fibre. Easy peasy.
A large vanilla shake.
Chobani 30g Protein Lowfat Greek Yogurt Drink. Tasty. Usually available for a good price at Costco.
Coffee? 🥴
Wendy’s Frosty. 😉
the least gross tasting are vegan soy unflavoured ones.
Fairlife by far!!! I have one every morning. There's a version with 42g protein also for just a bit more calories fairlife.com/chocolate-pr...
Chocolate milk
There are studies to back that up.
Buy peanut butter powder and add to almond milk and ice
Premiere protein shakes, cheapest at Costco. The chocolate one is the best.
Some of us speak for the caramel.
Agreed (the caramel ones are surprisingly tolerable)
Co-sign. Haven't found anything better.
I was gonna suggest that brand too, but I like the banana when I can find it.
My husband loves these.
I dig the Cafe Latte.
Same
And if you don't like the milky aftertaste, try the clean version. Vegan. Chocolate.
Cafe Latte are good, but I can't have the caffeine.
I like the Premier Protein caramel flavor over ice with a Shot of espresso. Tastes just like an iced caramel macchiato!!! If dining out, I bring my own cup for a single shot espresso over ice. Costs me about three bucks.
100% agree. I drink them all day. 💪🏽 Get chocolate.
Can confirm
Unrelated, but 👍 for the mask. I still always wear one in public indoor spaces.
I need to start wearing one inside again too. I have no healthcare and a new variant is going around I hear.
I prefer to not get sick and masks are an easy way to help avoid that.
And add 1/2 fruit for even more variety.
Yes, Berries!
Love vanilla mixed with coffee in the AM
The vanilla is fantastic and the strawberry is really nice too.
Totally agree!
Do they still make slimfast shakes? They actually work pretty well as protein shakes.
Sprout Living Epic Protein Powder (5 or 6 flavors, organic) mixed with a liquid of your choice. I've tried most of the flavored protein powders, and all but this one were far too sweet for me. Epic does contain coconut sugar & stevia, but not much of each. Sprout also has single-ingredient powders.
Fairlife is the best brand. My fave is the Fairlife caramel with two shots of espresso over ice (I also add a couple Splenda bc I like it super sweet!). It’s a great way to get protein by incorporating it into an iced coffee that would otherwise be pure sugar (for me) 😁
Premier Protein chocolate and peanut butter. Or why not eat a protein bar or cheese stick?
Chocolate ensure :)
Gin and tonic. You're welcome.
I think getting fresh veggies is important, so I garnish with a sprig of mint 🌱
Nothing wrong with a cold glass of tomato juice in the morning. Especially if it has vodka, celery and hot sauce in it.
Vitamin C baby! 🍅
I like Premier best.
Soylent, comes in a variety of forms, check their website. My favorite is the chocolate complete protein. It was also a winner with young, very picky eaters and not too sweet. Best cold. Also a great plant based protein source as I have alpha-gal syndrome.
Good find 😂, tho' Soylent Corporation is fictional.
why in the world did they name it Soylent?
Right????
I’ve done five and ten Ks where they hand out beer 🍺 at the finish line.
With ginger snaps!
Suja coffee bean flavor
I second Nurri found at Costco and Sam’s along with Fairlife Core Power 42 g.
Whiskey neat.
Not until 4pm
Fair.
Drink chocolate milk instead
My fave is Orgain Nutrition - Creamy Chocolate Fudge, not a ton of Protein, 16g, but its really good & packed with other nutrients.
Only What You Need brand…best tasting chocolate…no aftertaste.
Protein drink
drinkkoia.com/collections/...
Earth Chimp - ya, weird name, but it's great. Organic and vegan. I add some creatine and HMB to help maintain my aging muscles.
My recipe: 1/4 cup oat flakes, 1/4 cup bob’s red mill whey powder, 1/2 cup yogurt, 1/2 cup blueberries, 1 kiwi, 1 teaspoon honey. Blended, if it’s too thick for you add some liquid of your choice. I sometimes add water. It’s very good but does require some forethought. Luckily i have the time.
Try Lifeplus triple protein shakes.
Make your own protein shake Joyce! This is the best on the market in my opinion. Great company! earthchimp.com
DC Brau - Corruption
Why not Gatorade?
Flavcity protein powder….add milk or water. Yummy!
Zeal protein from Zurvita
Steak tartare smoothie…. 🧋🤢
Orgain organic protein includes 50 superfoods and a billion probiotics. vanilla tastes great! It's pea protein. You can also mix it with Greek yogurt and fruit for an awesome snack. get it on sale at Costco mix it with vanilla almond milk in the morning or after you work out or before you workout.
I use Orgain unsweetened almond milk (10 grams of protein per cup) for my coffee (mushroom), oatmeal etc.. I love it.
You were probably thinking of something made of blended fresh ingredients blessed by a Tibetan monk, but I like the Atkins Chocolate Royale protein shake.
Guinness.
Nurri or fairlife
What's this "work out" thing you speak of?
I like Atkins Cafe Caramel protein shake. Usually available at your grocery.
A steak
I like Orgain
i mix 1/2 flavored-sweetened and 1/2 unflavored-unsweetened w/H2O. Brand i like is 'Levels' they sell plain whey protein. also flavored. has ok 'other' ingredients. Pro tip: mix your shake with a couple of BIG dollops of plain Greek yogurt whatever brand you like.
Remedy organics is stellar and Naturade
Try OWN brand. It comes in ready made and powder. It's delicious.
My favorite - plant-based, so it’s really easy on the gut.
Sincere question. Are you certain you need a protein drink? I mean, have you personally consulted with a real nutritionist? Been seeing a ton of 'you need more protein' ads lately. Always told my kid - if it was good for you, they wouldn't have to advertise it to sell it.
It’s all nonsense. You can make a smoothie and use powdered greens like Spirulina or chlorophyll for protein. I do: frozen banana, mango, coconut yogurt, spirulina, flax meal and mixed mushroom powder with unpasteurized orange juice (Trader Joe’s sells).
Do not get this started.
If you have a balanced eating habit, you don’t need extra protein. Only if you make a living as a sport professional. If you really need some protein, make sure it’s not whey, but plantbased.🍀❤️
Why not whey?
Here’s a link to someone who is professional in this: www.instagram.com/reel/DKkDvVi...
Spot on 👍 no point in wasting your money on extra protein when you don’t need it.
For people who are doing strength training and, say, dont eat meat but do eat fish and eggs, its almost impossible to get enough protein from normal eating. Many people have done the math. If you are not trying to add pounds of muscle, you're correct, AFAIK
Ok! Thanks for the info. I do know that lifters who want a protein supplement often use whey-based products but there are legume-based alternatives
Here’s a screenshot of Dr Alan Desmond’s instagram post about this subject.
Sunwarrior warrior blend is THE BEST! Both the chocolate and vanilla I would recommend.
Lean 1 Vanilla - you can add any frozen fruit to change it up
Chocolate milk😎
Premier
Fairlife
Atkins shakes for me. They taste like you are not drinking protein. Creamy chocolate coconut, strawberry, vanilla and dark chocolate royale are my favorites.
Premier. But the best, but not easiest, is to buy protein powder at the big box stores and make your own shake.
Muscle milk. Chocolate.
Transparent Labs Grass-Fed Whey Protein Isolate - Naturally Flavored, Gluten Free Whey Protein Powder with 28g of Protein per Serving & 9 Amino Acids
REBBL is a great tasting protein drink with even better ingredients. Wholefoods carries them. rebbl.com
Ka'Chava.
When i was training for long distance running, they recommended chocolate milk.
I’d also like to know.
Same. No agreement so far.😂
Muscle Milk Slammin' Strawberry is the best one I've had so far. Doesn't have the weird, chalky texture or after taste to it.
Joyce we buy gold standard 100% whey protein powder vanilla ice cream flavor from Costco for after our workouts. It's really good.
📌
