Another good book written around the time of our nation's last flirt with fascism is The Ox-Bow Incident by Walter Van Tilburg Clark. At the time of publication, many assumed it was an indictment of Hitler's Germany, but years later, the author said he had written it with U.S. fascism in mind.

One of the greatest failings of this country is its lack of an informed citizenry. There are too many of us that don’t understand what the founders referred to as virtue (civic virtue), who don’t follow even major events and if they do, receive only the version pushed out which echos their views.

Excellent comment, Ken! Very well said, and so very, very true. As a retired attorney & former HS Civics teacher, I continually emphasize this, now resorting to calling much of the American Voting Electorate, “Stupid, Dumbass Voter’s who often vote ONLY GOP candidates all down Ballot & AGAINST..
