As we watch the horror movie known as Trumos America, I believe every Democratic Country needs to put term limits on our Senators, Congressmembers, lower house members etc. Why? I believe many US Senators and Congressmembers are compromised. π

That appears to be a huge issue. And why the president has so much unfettered power is ridiculous. Just open the gates for felons like Trump to bankrupt America. It's coming.
Absolutely correct.
Turm limits are a must. However, you don't need to be in office long to become compromised. Look at some of the second and third turmers in US politics. Bent as horseshoes.
aipac moves pretty fast. they will go after people before they are even nominated
Itβs a damn fact. Even though itβs a misquote, I stand by βmoney is the root of all evil.β A few Democrats that have been in office for a while. Check out their portfolios. πβπΌ
I believe you're right.
And no more Citizens United
It's likely that Russia, Israel etc have dirt files on them be it paedophilia, hiding their sexualising, bribe taking etc. Unlimited terms makes them easier to control by Rusdia etc eg let's say quite a few GaoP members term limits were up in 2026, they'd vote differently and not care so much.
Also its much harder for Russia, Israel etc to build up a large number of Politicions they control with term limits. In Australia although a less powerful Country, we are at risk of our Politicions being controlled through blackmail etc.
Politicions should have to be forensically Audited whilst in Office and a few times after leaving to ensure no dirty money finds its way to them for corrupted actions whilst in Office
Ya think!
And the supreme Court justices. Itsy fucked the compromised and corrupt grubs are their for life.
Deep pocket syndrome. Why they keep voting for billionaires is beyond me - they should be voting for the accountants of billionaires.
The analogy I draw is that we have compulsory retirement ages for military personnel. We should have the same for the people who have the power to put those people in harm's way. So, term and age limits. Should also apply to the high courts. Three terms and age 70 should be the cut-offs.
π― #Schumer. I think Jeffries is just clueless
I donβt agree with term limitsβgovernment is incredibly complicated and it takes years to understand how to govern well. What is needed are laws and oversight to prevent and/or punish corruption. The law preventing ownership of stocks by elected officials is a good start. Independent ethics 1/
You know Government laws and Legislation get passed based on advice given by long term civil servants who are experts in each subject. Eg if I got elected as an MP in Australia and convinced my Oarty to support say Tax changes that made the rich pay mire etc, I'd get Tax experts to advise
The Tax kaw experts would write a report detailing the benefits of my proposal and it then gets passed or declined because my colleagues are on the take from the rich..
You say experience. Many Republicans admitted they didn't read the so called big beautiful bill that got passed, others didn't understand it and these were long term members.
Meanwhile these Congressmembers are meant to read every word in proposed legislation, note areas they don't understand and contact relevant experts to explain it.
So forgive me if I say you're wrong. These Congressmembers and Senators are mostly clueless and will vote according to who donates to their election campaigns and who gives them money in Brown paper bags
None of them deserve to be there and I suspect will be voted out if we have the opportunity to. If we find a way through this, there will be a rare opportunity for level heads to institute changes which will work for all of us, but that window wonβt remain open indefinitely. Thatβs my hope.
commissions over elected officials should exist. There are a lot of things which can and should be implemented. Age limits are much more important. Seventy seems reasonable, certainly for the Senate; perhaps 74 for the House. Voters are the best term limitsβand that solution is civic education.
This problem is a global one. Only one legislative term (say, seven years) should be permitted, and then it should be forbidden to work in a lobby-precarious segment for five years after that. The right to stand for election should require a standardized psychological and professional aptitude test.
Probably don't need term limits. A simple law saying that the IRS is required to release your tax returns when your name appears on a ballot for federal office would probably get 60% of congress to decide not to run again.
Idk, I think the days when you could expect the media to make an issue out of a politician's dodgy tax affairs are over. And without the media making it an issue who would even notice?
The media are corrupted as the Billionaire owners aren't in it for honest reporting and many are dishonest as well
You may be right.
AND GET RID OF THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE!!!! One person one vote
Also strictly limit campaign spending and make them publicly funded.

Absofreakinglutely. I've been saying this for years. Especially on the back-seat bureaucrats !
I agree but Ted Cruz was a proponent of term limits which makes me question it. Like, what am I not seeing?
