Spent a fair bit of time in the US over the years with work. Fabulous geography amazing geology, some truly lovely people. But I disliked every minute. Rude arrogant border folks, self important cops (before trump) & I never had a decent meal. No one ever walked anywhere, laughable public transport.
So you mostly met the MAGA types π€£. I've argued with the type people you met online. I'm finding many amazing Americans here on Bluesky who I admire
Americans I know are warm, friendly and generous. But world knowledge and political "intelligence" is limited to only a small part of the nation. I was lucky enough to find myself mostly among them. Good food though, doesn't seem to exist.
When I visited America one told me I speak good English for an Australian.
Yes I did get that a few times.
I don't know where you visited but the food scene in Cleveland is phenomenal.
Never been to Cleveland, will accept your recommendation. Mostly California, Florida, Nevada, Utah. Everyone kept raving about mexican food. Not for me.
Iβm with you Canada π¨π¦.. @nhknewsunofficial.bsky.social @latimes.com @nprextra.bsky.social @npr.org
Good for Canada!
Another thing happens when your tourism craters. Tourist that do still come arrive to a low energy, depressed venue and think, "well this sucks". That word gets around pretty fast.
I don't blame them. My 1st cousins and I have been planning a family reunion in Chicago in Sept. I will be bowing out if tre45on sends the guard into Chicago. I have absolutly no faith in a military takeover. I would not feel safe.
Well, who knew that this would happen? I love the US, been there many times for work and pleasure. You could not pay me enough to set foot in it at this moment in time. What would make literally millions of people feel any different?
