In each individual Senate race — NC/Cooper, OH/Brown, ME/Mills — I get the logic of picking the old white person. It’s tough branding for the party as a whole though — maybe Talarico will be the opportunity for “fresh” in Texas.

Is Mills running?
People think she might.
Kind of weird to include her in that list when she keeps saying she doesn’t want to!
Cooper is super popular in NC. I was excited about Wiley bringing some youth, but Cooper has the name recognition. Don’t know if he has the fire to deliver the political blood the dems desire though. But he’s good at governing. Brings that Jimmy Carter good ole boy energy.
Or maybe we should just win
He is a superstar 🌟🌟🌟🌟
Since when is Mills running?
Wisconsin got burned going with Mandela, so don't look to us for "fresh" anytime soon.
honestly for NC cooper is just a really good pick. He is a stand up guy.
I think if you have enough fresh faces, you can afford to have some older candidates. It also depends on the charisma and energy of the older candidates.
Brown is the only Democrat to win a statewide race since 2006 and is pretty much the only Democrat available.
tough branding? who are they running against, genius?
Cooper I'm fine with -- he's the one guy there I know can win. I would love Brown back but Feingold's 2016 comeback attempt failed so I'm skeptical. Mills? Meh.
I mean you name me a better option than Mills lol that’s the challenge, we all agree we SHOULD be able to get someone younger there. AND the bench is just so, so short there.
I'm assuming if Mills doesn't run then one of the contenders in the governor race jumps over. I guess the question is how important it is for a big "name" vs someone who's seen as "generic Dem"
The brand won’t be determined until the presidential primaries in 2028
In Ohio we don’t have a large D name. Brown has the highest visibility. There’s Acton running for Governor and Klein (current City of Columbus Attorney that worked in the Obama admin with Biden) probably running for Mayor but outside of that no one that comes to mind with large name recognition.
Beatty and Russo maybe.
Michigan Dem Senate candidates are substantially younger. McMorrow or El Sayed would bring youth & fresh face. Stevens is young, but her alignment with establishment will keep her out of the ‘fresh’ look/ approach lane.
Dems need to compete in a WHOLE LOT MORE states. In 1992 the D presidential ticket was a Gov from ARKANSAS and a Senator from TENNESSEE. Dems have ceded too many Senate seats. Match the candidate to the district. More Joe Manchins and fewer Beto O’Rourkes We need to win.
Joe Manchin got us where we're at by hamstringing Biden's agenda. Nobody wants more of that snake but the lobbyists. If we have to rebuild state parties, why rebuild them to look like the old busted ones?
What is your plan to win the Senate? How are you going to elect Dems in WV, TN, ID, WY, ND, SD, AR? Dems don’t even try to compete in those states. I’d gladly to elect a viper if it would vote with Dems once in a while!
Yup … the oldies can prob eke out wins in a d+ environment. Talarico could be a/the reason for a d+ environment
Well Maine is nothing but old white people
Horseshit ….tell me you have never been to Maine without being from Maine
It's 95% white. That's not bad or something. It's just a fact
Obvi it’s not literally true but Maine is one of the oldest and whitest states lol
It’s the map. You can’t do it in NC or KY. You want a fresh face? Primary Schumer with AOC.
That would be a disaster
Why?
Each state/locality is different, and you need candidates that can win there. While the 3 Senator candidates you mentioned are old and white, NJ Dem governor candidate isn't old, and NYC Dem mayor candidate isn't white.
They tried that with Beto for 15 years
Boomers are the only growth area for Democrats :(
