I understand why AI is terrible and it truly scares me. It affects jobs, people in need, the environment... If we really decide to live AI-free, we'd have to give up on our phones, social media, video games and so much more that we aren't even aware of. What to do, then? Become a hermit? 🫤

I was watching a Neil Degrassi YT vid (WCIF if you need link) and he was talking about how this would work! It was a really interesting talk about where in its life span it actually is and where as real humans we fit. I found it super enlightening and it cleared ALOT of misconceptions!🤔

I think the most important thing is remembering the distinction between Generative AI and the AI that has been used in technology/games since before the 70s. It’s a lot easier to distance yourself from that type of specific AI and opt out of it whenever you possibly can. AI CAN be good, but not-

In its current state where it’s being peddled to shareholders and investors for maximum profit or with the exceptionally high cost of natural resources Gen AI consumes.

For sure. It's interesting that what's driving the prices now is our stress abt it-how we are getting chronically hooked on not believing in ourselves+using it just as a tool! I asked it once abt the resources,it was still GPT 4 -it was so optimistic abt how we will use it to combat climate change.

You actually gave me an insight that maybe I didn't have before. Thank you, socks 💜 Sometimes I get confused and can't recognize the difference between old harmless AI and the current AI, based on many things, but mostly greed. Companies try to fool us too.

Yeah it’s overwhelming and they do it on purpose, I’m glad I was able to put it into different 💕 Shits scary but sometimes we get upset with the wrong stuff along the way.

Honestly my stance boils down to this: if it can be avoided without massive changes to daily life, I avoid it 100% (example: core usage in specific video games) and if it can’t be avoided but can be opted out of or ignored, I begrudgingly do that (example: web searches, cell phones)

I say “core usage” referring to video games because every so often I see something where I’m willing to look at it case by case. A recent example is Spirit City: Lofi Sessions, which used a music provider that used generative AI. If they kept it, I will stop supporting that game. If not I will stay

The only reason it’s not a blanket dealbreaker for me is because 1. I’m not sure of the details as of yet and 2. Admittedly it’s one of my most used games, it helps me a lot with productivity, and I have yet to find an alternative (though I am looking). Others will disagree with me and I accept that

With that being said, I'll still avoid it when I can 😉 I miss regular Google, honestly.
