they want Joe and Joyce to Do It with all the frightening zeal of a Emma Watson Turns 18 counter
oh god ewww why did I have to remember that was a thing!? ~<3
Yeah, I'd blessedly managed to forget too. Every guy that's ever made one of those pages should be forced to explain it to his mother.
I don't understand people who get invested in a specific outcome for a story. I like Joe and Joyce, but this makes complete sense for the characters and stirs up drama. Plus, it sets Joe up for an arc where he learns that being a person he respects is worthwhile even if he's not rewarded with sex!
As somebody who came out of the same kind of world Joyce did (and has friends who followed similar arcs) it is one the least messy and most responsible deconstruction processes i have watched
One thing that makes me hopeful is that Joyce and Dorothy have an example of a polycule on their floor, although that one is like molecular nitrogen (N3), where each atom is bonded to both of the others and it's extremely stable, (1/2)
whereas this would be more like hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), where two oxygen atoms are bonded to each other, and one hydrogen atom apiece, and is very unstable. (2/2)
You don't need to be hopeful. Just enjoy where the story takes you
And you set it up to be emotionally devastating for 3-5 characters, even though no one involved is immoral in a way that's not forgivably college-aged hormonal, which I have to respect as a writer. To top it off, you've set up a few new canon porn comics, which you gotta respect on a business level
this might be the most brutal read i've ever seen.
how dare you cuck their chad
*anita ward voice* you can cuck my chaAaAad, cuck my chad
…are they that narratively blind that they don’t understand that Joe not being the one to fuck up his relationship is far more devastating (for him) than any other potential outcome? Have they been reading a different comic about primarily happy relationships?
I joined the subreddit a while ago, but only just realised how odd they are. It's immediately become a favourite hate-read. This bit about how anyone who didagrres with them is a sociopath incapable of being "functional people" is when I realised it was going to be a truly wild ride.
Fellas . . . is it sociopathy to enjoy fiction?
People have also been weird about it on the latest weekly r/hobbydrama "scuffles" thread. I feel like most of the hate towards Dorothy and Joyce (the former in particular) is just misogyny and/or homophobia
🤣 nice I joked once that JKR needed a new grift after her characters turned legal, hence, Psycho TERF From Hell™
