Is this a rerun? I swear I've seen this one before.
I don't know enough about Beetle Bailey to say so or not!
It's easy to forget your relationship with *all* newspaper comics isn't that of a 9CL sicko
I would be quite astounded if Beetle Bailey never re-used a gag w/out it being a literal reprint.
There's an apocryphal army story about a base where the commanding general's hair was noticeably longer than regulation in his official portrait. And soon enough some wag graffitied it with an arrow and the phrase "look at that hair". Which was joined the next day by an arrow pointing at his...
... collar insignia saying "look at that rank." Anyway, that was significantly better comic timing than whatever Beetle Bailey has going on here.
Sometimes, that's the charm. My wife and I are binging Cheers. Most episodes we've either never seen. Yet, it's comforting to sometimes see the setup for the gag and call out the punchline, because the characters and the rhythms are familiar, like visiting old friends and retelling the same stories.
Sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows the punchline.
I suspect to people who still read Beetle Bailey, there's a similar effect.
Flap is the young Revolver Ocelot of the US army and Halftrack needs to piss off.
