Cracker Barrel was never a thing here in North Jersey. In fact I have only been to one once like 20 years ago. Are any other parts of the US like this because it seems like some areas are deeply connected to it.

They have better pancakes than IHOP or Waffle House. Rest of their breakfast is good too. Cozier atmosphere compared to the other two as well.
Are they more known for breakfast than dinner? I legit have no idea.
Not especially, but I only go there for breakfast. Their dinner isnt bad - fried chicken, meatloaf, veggies, etc. Basic southern cooking. Same basic level of quality you'd expect from your basic chain restaraunt. The atmosphere is a big part of the appeal - lots of earthtones & wood. Very calming.
In places, they're the reliable "meat and three (vegetables/sides)" close to the highway, and the gift shop makes a nice family break on a road trip. They're also popular with local seniors who want the older-style food without cooking. Like most places, they're not as good as they once were.
This would be the single most tragic rebranding since the jungle themed McDonald’s. So yeah, we’re connected to it in Ohio 😅
Curious, is there one in like every town like McDonalds? The closest one to me is about 45 minutes away and it was built within the last 10 years.
Ok I am looking at this nifty map and its definitely not a thing for at least half of the states.
Southern / Midwest comfort food definitely has a specific area of service in this country 😅. But still 658 locations odds per good, especially when they’re concentrated in (relatively) few states.
The gift shop usually has cool stuff. It’s the only thing I remember. All of those “shit on the wall” places feel pretty interchangeable to me now.
I feel the same way.
I know of two locations in MA and NH, no idea if either is still open. I went to one probably 15-20 years ago and did not enjoy the experience and have never considered returning.
That was pretty much my experience too.
All their non breakfast food is too salty and plain for me. Yeah, I live in VA, but I don't really like country southern food.
There’s one in Mount Arlington by Lake Hopatcong. But I agree with the sentiment that it’s not something we grew up with.
I think thats the closest one to me. Like 40-45 minutes away. Might be one in NY state closer to me though
The Country Fried Turkey in the fall is worth the trip. But in general it’s just solid food that’s never really great, but always good enough.
