OPEC raising production increases the supply causing prices to fall. Oil under $60 is unprofitable for American producers so they shutdown rigs and reduce capacity. OPEC is doing this to increase OPEC's market share, at which point they will cut their production and oil prices will increase.

What that means in simple terms, is that the rigs are not active and in production, crude oil or natural gas, if it isnt profitable. Its just like mining...Mines shut down if the commodity prices are too low for prortitable actifvity.

I was in Houston training a team at one of the big oil services companies and they were in panic mode. They told me that their business would collapse if oil dropped below $55/barrel because drilling and exploration would simply stop. It’s not there yet but it’s getting close.
