It’s pretty striking to me that by scrolling Bluesky’s “Popular With Friends” tab for a few minutes I can get up to speed quickly with the breaking news of the day but if I were to just scroll X’s “For You” page for the same amount of time (or more) I wouldn’t even know there was a school shooting
When I wake up "Popular With Friends" is like my summary of the day or night.
X is bad.
I went to check this on X and there was one post included in the For You section, but it had all the pictures of his ammo mags with slurs written on them. I'm pretty sure that's how they fooled the algorithm into sharing it.
But you would get a whole lot more porn
There IS a bunch of stuff I don't see here that were on the Nazi sites. I don't want to rot my brain accidentally while watching millions get brain rot but livestreams etc. plus international reports of events are harder to find...it's fine. But I did learn a lot from these.

X told me nothing. It didn't even tell me about the Taylor engagement. It only starts sending you certain news items if you click on one first. But how would you know to do so?

The “For You” algorithm, like TikTok’s, is determined by each user’s behavior, so this isn’t the case for everyone. But I think the introduction of this default feed has made X even worse for breaking news, one of Twitter’s primary purposes. And that’s bad for people still getting their news on X

its amazing how well Popular With Friends works. i wish there was a version of it with more posts but rn i will go on there, like every single post organically, and get caught up on i’d say 85% of the important news.
My "popular with friends" is almost entirely cat pictures, though there are a few posts about the shooting sprinkled between cat poses. Quite the dichotomy.

they really gotta promote that feed over the Discover feed
because this particular shooter, out of thousands, was allegedly trans, its about to become twitters number one topic for the next two weeks or more.

I thought the X "for you" page was just "here are some posts from Elon-approved Nazis that we want to show you"
The only use twitter has at the moment is being a containment chamber for people who are really into the third Reich.
