It would make more sense for this to be a bonus feature for having the ad-free HBO Max subscription. You could get more subscribers to sign up and stay on HBO that way, but what do I know.
I appreciate the clarity in the print that is in fact a license being purchased, not ownership of the content. I don’t like the practice, but transparency about it is a step in the right direction at least.
