He did not get them the deal they wanted, he broke the strike and was able to negotiate an improvement to the deal they got, but it was not what they were demanding. And, crucially, they missed out on building worker power and militancy through a strike. That's a lost opportunity for all workers.

An autoworkers strike that shuts down a plant is one thing that people can get behind. An actors or writers strike that shuts down Hollywood studios people can get behind. A rail strike that shuts down the entire economy is not going to get the same sort of support & could easily harm all unions.

Also, he was "able to negotiate an improvement to the deal they got." That sounds pretty good. Something to build on perhaps. Except too many people decided to let trump back into power.
