But Colbert was the leader in the time slot and was making them money. It’s undoubtedly political. The grubbers have to grub.

CBS gave Trump $16m in a sham defamation case due to 60 minutes. They are making sure it doesn't happen again. Plus, CBS is being bought and it requires government approval. That $16m was just a bribe.

Yes, that’s why CBS can truthfully say it’s financial. Getting rid of truth teller Colbert likely reduced the defamation suit to the $16m from what TyRump wanted to sue for.

Yeah. He wanted $20 billion. But it was more about the upcoming buyout and keeping the current administration happy.

He’ll let slip that detail in the end. Can’t resist. Fuck CBS.

It's the same strategy that Amazon uses. They are willing to hemorrhage money if they think they can effectively sway public opinion away from criticizing Trump

Yeah, but they can't. So they'll bankrupt themselves to do nothing. We should all be celebrating

Yep. The thing about it being political tho is that Colbert really could take it to a more independent platform or hell even have his own website and he's got the built in audience to still make it work. The large media companies are not the gatekeepers they used to be.

It’s such a shortsighted move.

I mean, big corporate businesses haven't really been planning for long term stability over short-term gain since the 80s and they figured out they could make their top executives rich fast by screwing over everyone else, including themselves, in the long term. They make their money and get out

They're hedging their bets. We just have to show them that they gambled wrong
