Let’s be so real the classroom trap could be in the saw 3D misogyny tier 😵💫—as much as the design of it is iconic someone has to hold me back before I beat Hoffman…it’s his fault somehow… (ik Gordon had to have helped at least but-)
wait explain
While obviously it doesn’t fall within being a Saw 3D trap imo it fits the misogyny part as well it follows John’s general idea of “don’t put yourself into bad situations” it also really waters down the issue of this woman being abused and all the complexities of that- 1/2
The most dangerous time for a victim is while they’re trying to escape but rather than just putting the shithead in the trap he actually gears the entire challenge towards the woman. Finally cut him out or die. Little too in the vein of “well you stayed didn’t you ?” 2/2
see i dont really see it that way….i know abuse has a lot of nuances but im just so in love with the “remove your abuser from your life” being so physical and visceral it fucking ROCKS. and i think its funny as hell cause the man is literally irredeemable even to jigsaw and HAS to die.
should add that “jigsaw” in this case could in fact be hoffman.
I believe it is honestly—if it were a different point in time it would kinda reek of Amanda since her traps aren’t always exactly fair…but John is pretty black and white on giving people a chance while Hoffman would kill 1,000 abusers tomorrow after his sister…
which is so based the beginning of hoffman’s villain arc is so valid
Yes fr—it’s wild how often the movies prove the point that people are often pushed to do things that are drastic or don’t make sense and yet the mcs continue not to apply that to average people and put them into traps,,,like something something violence is cyclical and people love rationalization
saw 3D is its own level of misogyny because the women literally have to rely on the world’s most loser man to save them and that’s it. his wife especially doesn’t deserve what she gets AT ALL. and then theres jill….ohhh sweet babygirl im so sorry….
Yeah honestly,,,the women in that movie are not given the agency they should have been 😵💫
John has a tendency to take the idea of personal choice to a really extreme place. Oftentimes the habits he attempts to get a person out of are because the alternative is worse for them. So he changes the alternative and raises the stakes. I get this and enjoy this but this is one of the-
Instances in which it causes me to wince. The mechanics of the trap are really cool and the symbolism is also pretty awesome but I guess I partially see it the same way as the wire maze trap. I am put off by what is being punished somewhat.
