The meme is misleading. Texas doesn't require party affiliation when you register to vote. About 27% of Texans are unaffiliated. However, it is still gerrymandered in favor of Republicans based on polling data which is where the number of Dems/GOP voters comes from. GOP assumes blacks vote Dem.

British - I understand that when Texas joined the Union it had a clause inserted that allowed them to have a referendum in future on whether to stay or secede. Didn't they hold it around 2000 and vote to stay? Can blue states legally withhold paying federal funding? (so red states don't benefit).

By law, The Constitution prevents succession, it's illegal. It would have to be a Texan revolt. The military is a federal, not state entity, it's members pledge of allegiance is to the constitution above the president, above the state, but instead to the federal government.
