Cold War laws, like the IEEPA & Section 232, with vague, undefined clauses allowing the President to be a Mad King by declaring a "national emergency" or invoking "national security" totally need to go. We can't do that anymore, because we can't assume all parties are committed to norms & democracy.
Everybody who ever warned against the danger of these laws has been vindicated. We stocked the federal government full of statutory weapons useful for someone seeking authoritarian power and now the armory has been fully raided.
Trump only uses the laws that benefit him. He breaks the rest.
We will need to pass new laws that no longer depend on “norms” and the “spirit”!of the law to prevent an imperial president presidency. We will need a new law that puts an IG in place that cannot be fired by the president without congressional approval.
Not a political scientist but there's a problem no legislation could have fixed — two terms of a man who is barely literate, severely incompetent and who suffers from delusions of grandeur. The problem? A White racist electorate.
The problem is that like rights, once power is given, it is next to impossible to reclaim. What president is going to sign a bill that puts limits on the power they currently have?

I wouldn't put it past this SCOTUS to declare any sort of legislation around this to be unconstitutional...so I guess it'll have to be passed when a Democratic president is in office because then they might be more inclined to restrain them.
We have to make a future Trump illegal since the honor system means nothing when dealing with dishonorable people.
We should have executed any slave holders after the civil war, even the ones in office, I don't know what that correlates to now, but lets do that too.
The Trump administrations view is that the military is there to control the people. Any pretext whether real or fabricated can be used to threaten the use of military force, which is particularly true with Trump.
