I think Goku could not be corrupted to Evil by the Ring … but he could fail to Resist its subtle manipulations giving the ring a chance to escape destruction by his hand. If Goku didn’t know it’s nature the Ring would use him as a vessel to get to someone like Vegeta.

I wonder how the ring would affect a person who can channel divine Ki. I know it can affect powerful beings like wizards who function like semi divine beings in Middle Earth.

The ring preys upon intention and goals … which is why Gandalf and Galadriel fear coming into contact with it … I think Goku is largely immune to its Corrupting force as his goal is pretty much *train myself to be as epic as I can achieve through personal ability to do so* …

I feel like that is the story we are told in LOTR. That everyone can be corrupted. That's why Frodo was only allowed to go with the fellowship. I think even Samwise would have given in alone

Indeed … of the character that are “weak” enough to possibly be influenced by the ring while also having the sense of purpose and awareness to destroy it … I think that Esme Weatherwax with Nanny Og as a companion would be the most ideal candidates in all of fiction.

The Fact of the Matter is that Esme is *immune* to the ring because being the most bad ass Witch is what is at Weatherwax’s core … and nothing is more bad ass that resisting the One Ring when all others fail … it’s the ultimate test oh being Stubborn … and Nanny Ogg would know if Esme faltered …

Esme couldn’t live with herself knowing that Nanny Ogg saw her lose to the Ring so she wouldn’t lose to the Ring … simple as that … And while Esme carries the ring … Nanny Ogg would be fully aware of the Ring trying to influence herself but is delighted with her life so would not be tempted.

To bring the total to three you can bring in Tiffany Aching as a second companion or even the primary Ring Bearer overseen by Esme and Gytha … Tiffany is exceedingly resilient to mental corruption as her Headmates are constantly watching, correcting, protecting and supporting her …

Basically if required to carry the One Ring … Tiffany would have a minimum of Four additional Tiffanys telling the One Ring to fuck off when it tries to influence her … or to bring her back to herself quickly if it begins to influence her.

So … yeah … Gytha is an excellent companion but would likely be corrupted by the ring so knows better than to touch it … and exceedingly canny about keeping the Ring Bearer honest Esme or Tiffany make excellent ring bearers or companions.

May I offer Petulia, the pig witch? She would not be tempted

Petulia is amazing. I would argue that while the Ring would not easily corrupt her to *Evil* it would *easily* manipulate her into its agenda. The Ring has an agenda … it seeks power … She doesn’t have the fortitude not to be manipulated by it to its intent and will.

I don't know. I think she developed it in the latter books when she really stepped into her own power.

There are a surprising (not really that surprising) number of Discworlders who could be trusted with the One Ring, now that I think about it. Ook.
