Sometimes I'm not sure why. I honestly wasn't a very good pet owner in my 20s. I worked too much and drank way too much. But she always loved me. When I was at my worst point, I made a list of reasons to continue living. There were only 3 things on it, and one was that she needed me specically.
She was also there when I grew the fuck up and got my shit together and was able to be there for her like she deserved. The last few years, she's been incredibly happy that I've worked at home. All she's ever really wanted out of life is to sit on my feet while I used my computer.
It's hard for me to talk about my relationship with her, because she liked so few people and wasn't ever the same cat when others were around. Our relationship was quiet and private and very, very deep. I'll miss her terribly, and I'm glad I had the honor of being her person.

Ah, thank you. What can I think of right now? When I first brought her home, I thought I lost her! I tore all 400 square feet of my studio apart looking for her, and finally I found her under the sofa cushions, stretched in such a thin little black line that I'd missed her the first time I checked!

Her favorite video game was Baldur's Gate 2. I'm not sure if it was the music or that it made me sit still and make a lap for hours on end. I adopted her during the velvet tracksuit period of fashion, and it was always her favorite fabric.

And she was a very accomplished opera singer - I'm not entirely sure if she got that from her Siamese mother or if she learned it from the human opera singer who used to live down the hall. Either way, she always made her little 7 pound self heard!
Oh, and one last thing. She was always so dainty and graceful. With others, it mostly manifested as running away really fast, but I got to witnessing all kinds of amazing cat acrobatics. As recently as this Monday, she made a truly awesome leap from the kitchen island to the top of the cabinets.

This is the toughest thing. To care for a creature that was there for you for so long, through so much. And I know those thoughts too well, where that creature keeps you from darkness and nothingness. RIP Lily.
