In the end, what it amounts to is simple. These people have recognized that they're the bad guy, and what specific actions make it so, but they desperately demand that the entirety of society band together to continue pretending they're good. And once we lay it out, it's easy to say no to that.

But if you dig deeper, you will also find a fascist mindset behind the idea. On some level, a fascist mindset is required to take a view of the form "I alone get to decide what the rest of the world is allowed to prefer, like, dislike, and be mad about."
