I largely agree, but also, between chronic pain stuff and just ... not wanting to deal with it, I find mundane automation like that to be nice. Similar mundane automation is like ... programmable thermostats [not iot, mind you] and alarm clocks.

I'm not talking about automation at all here... just a different kind of garage door opener which some people really like as opposed to the ordinary kind which hangs from the ceiling
