Sure, but without guns, you'd still have all of that minus the enormous pile of corpses. The US isn't the only place with these issues, but it is the only one that has the devastating body count.

Let’s not lose sight of the fact that everything being done by the GOP and Trump not only utterly fails to address gun control, social safety nets, or education and opportunity, but actively undermines all of them.

I think we should also remember that Democrats continually push poorly-designed legislation they know won’t pass, and then throw up their hands and blame the GOP when nothing happens.

Decades of failed legislation and wasted lobbyist dollars have demonstrated that guns aren’t going away. We could shift the focus to actual solutions, or we could continue to spin our wheels on waging that battle. Prohibition and the War on Drugs have demonstrated how banning stuff doesn’t work.
