Shouldn't people be more mad that Square through out the code to begin with... *looks at KH 1* Ah yes.. "preservation" is just whining with buzzword to really mean "Availability."

very few companies actually preserved the games they made in the 90s and early 00s, it was just the culture at the time to delete your work rather than try to permanently archive it that's why remasters/remakes can end up not quite right and having their own weird quirks even when trying to be 1:1
I am well aware, and I agree it's horrible. But 99 percent about game "preservationists" arguments aren't really about game PRESERVATION *or places like Nintendo would actually be PRAISED because they not only keep the code, they keep docs and such* But no.. they just want availability.
It’s like you hit the nail head on there. Of course we give Nintendo shit for not releasing games. Preservation isn’t about making sure it exists, it’s about making sure people can see it. That’s why Nintendo sitting on code to starfox2, mother 1, and sim city nes is so messed up.
If the leaks were true, Nintendo is sitting on other gems like a gameboy port of gargoyles quest 2. We all want to play those games and make sure others can play them. That’s preservation.
The advocate for AVAILABILITY, not preservation. Also.. Yes.. Nintendo may be sitting on Gargoyles Quest 2... Why not bug capcom the makers of the game about it.. oh yeah...
you’re splitting hairs that are not worth splitting. por que no los dos?
Better yet.. Just advocate for what you are REALLY after. Availability.
do you have a problem with that, or is your issue strictly a matter of the word people are using?
whats wrong with wanting things to be available, exactly? why is that such a horrible thing to you?
Accessibility is an important part of preservation, it’s why we have things like the Library of Congress. Keeping the code is good, I’m not gonna say otherwise but being able to play the game is also important.
Okay.. Library of Congress, great example. Go pull me the Pilot episode of Doozy bots then.
sorry, what is your argument? because clearly you want to argue, but it's not clear about what
Not everything is selected for the library of congress.
Btw shoutout to the video game history foundation for helping to preserve video game supplementals, they do great work
