The book was written and portrayed conditions in the 1930s during the Great Depression. The film 🎥 was made in 1940.

He must have experienced and seen some unforgettable things? Mine was born in 1935 and his folks moved a lot chasing down work and a better life. They ended up settling in Los Angeles and WWII put everyone to work one way or another.

Mine was born in 1928. My mom was born in 1933. Their parents were sharecroppers in South Carolina. They saw some things for sure. People of means in that area despised poor white people just as much as poor black people -- if not more. They thought poor white people were unmotivated and lazy.

My dad told me he had to quit school, eighth grade his last, cause his family had to work. They followed the wheat harvest. His dad was a bootlegger when not following harvest.

I don’t think that was uncommon during hard times 😢? It was a very hard time and life. I wonder if we’re going to end up hitting the old road again like back in the 1930s?
