What is the likelihood of accountability for the many crimes committed during this administration by people who work for the USG or who are paid by the USG? And how can the corrupt 6 SCOTUS justices be allowed to rule like they have been to allow what’s happening?
What music are you listening to these days?
Do you have any legal angle on the activities of MAGA muckraker Saihajpreet Singh? Former US resident, currently lives in Ottowa. He runs a bot account named CityDeskNYC and is gleefully bragging to the press about how easy it is to manipulate American politics. ottawacitizen.com/news/ottawa-...
I have a question. In this world of news media sensationalism and the race for shock, I have valued your reserved approach and even handed analysis. At what point, however, does shock, rage, and anger more accurately report or reflect the continuing assault on norms and the rule of law?
Reading Julie K Brown’s book, she writes about SDNY being asked to investigate JE under your leadership and the case not being picked up. Curious why that was? Why didn’t you have your office look into it?
How’s your summer going? If you were bringing the case for female bodily autonomy before SCOTUS how would you outline your argument? Thanks for all you do and love the podcast. It was thrilling/electric to be in the room as the lights dimmed and theme music played at your J. Toobin live show. TY!
#AskPreet I wonder if the phrase “The Epstein situation” instead of "The Epstein file” is being deliberately used to obscure the fact that there is a paper trail, as situation alludes to something more vague and less legalistic.
Oh, Mr. Bharara, Too many, but... Your views on Cali, etc. redistricting? I'm sure you know how many of us are screaming DO IT NOW!!!
What does Maurene Comey know and does she have the integrity to speak out?
No questions but thank you for agreeing to be Adam Schiff’s defense counsel.
No questions. We appreciate you.
#AskPreet If Trump ordered Hegesth to shoot American citizens, does SCOTUS ruling provide immunity for Trump? Hegseth obviously receives pardon (as well as any soldier who follows any Trump illegal orders). Hasn’t SCOTUS created perfect pathway for Germany April 1933? We’re pretty much on track👇🏼
I'm sure you know this but just to make sure prior to 2022 there was no rate difference with Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac on a second home as opposed to a primary residence. As long as the borrower was putting at least 10% down the rates would have been the same
When it comes to presidents and the laws that constrain them. I wonder what is the ideal balance between writing laws that protect us, and forming education and values in the electorate such that we don't elect an ass.
The primary benefit to be derived from the Trump years is the knowledge of how vulnerable our systems are. What laws or amendments would you put in place in response to these lessons?
There is a debate I think you could do a good job with. When talking about immigration, some advocate for being selective. Bring in doctors, scientists, etc. If I recall, your parents came over because your father was a doctor. I have a different view. Why privilege the already privileged? 1/
There are great minds with vast potential among the disadvantaged as well, not to mention our need for labor. Creating bureaucracy (cost) to select those that have completed degrees feels wasteful and furthers a class mythology I think we should wash our hands of.
Interested Canadian here: in the absence of felony charges, to engage the Fugitive Felon Act, what is the basis for the FBI tracing and/or arresting the absent Democratic Texan legislators? “A Republican senator asked us to”??? Could state police arrest an FBI agent for arresting (abducting) them?
Oh I do have a question but it might be too early. If the Dems take back the house what should be their primary focus to claw back some of our norms?
I’m not sure about a question but I’ll leave this post as my wtf for the day. bsky.app/profile/atru...
"Earned"... WTF?
Can the Historical Society step in and stop this ridiculous ballroom.
I did a bit of snooping around re Kennedy Center. T is "chairman" of the center but I'm thinking that breaks NY State settlement requirements for his activity in charities in that state. Also may break some lobbying rules for 501c3s. Could they lose that status and have to reapply? Happened before
What year of the 1930s is American at?
What is your favorite pasta, and why is it Fusilli?
You were fired because you didn’t bend the knee. I can’t WAIT to see you in action on the Schiff team. No questions; just a pat on the back and a word of thanks that you are on the right side of justice.
Given the deference that Congress and the Supreme Court have given the executive, what stops President AOC, Newsome, Shapiro, whoever, from declaring the Heritage Foundation and the Federalist Society as domestic terrorist organizations? I think I could make at least as much of a case as for D.C.
Is Mark Cuban right when he wrote "The winners of the midterms are already working on how to integrate ChatGPT , Gemini , etc into their campaigns. Millions of voters will simply ask " who should I vote for this election""
Will this country ever be fixed?
Would we be better off to constantly spotlight the multi-tiered support system, built over decades, to prop up a Republican despot? E.g., 1. Craven lawmakers (especially!) by name and district, 2. Primary System, 3. TV, especially Murdoch's Fox, ($election ads$) 4. Big Money in politics, 5. Etc.
Re: Your interview with Martha Minow. My take on the reference to high profile cases was that she believed they were not consequential relative to the overall functionality of the system. I would argue that they are numerically low but have a high consequence relative to public perception and trust
in the system. The high profile cases, in many instances involve entities with an outsized influence/reach within society. The tentacles of the Epstein case is one example. Has it been sensationalized, or, does it warrant dogged pursuit given its potential reach and damage to law and society?
Now that we know how the Why Good Laws Aren’t Enough with Martha Minow, Stay Tuned with Preet Bharara podcast episode addressed your comments, what do you think? substack.com/home/post/p-...
