My dad used to call my mom a battle-axe which means aggressive, overbearing, forceful. He thought it was a negative name. I always sort of thought good for you mom. Let him have it π

I use all of these regularly, except tenterhooks was new to me. But now that I know what it means I have one more useful word added to my vocabulary! I spend a lot of time on tenterhooks too, I'm surprised I've never heard that word before.
