Dismayed that the "opposition" party's reaction to the authoritarian party's authoritarian assault is to move further away from political accountability rather than doing what a democracy is supposed to do.

What do you mean?

I mean that politicians choosing their own voters is a recipe for more unaccountability and authoritarianism, not less. When both parties decide to defy the will of the voters, why even have elections?

Democrats should guarantee passage of a national gerrymandering ban if they get a trifecta (including bypassing the senate filibuster to do it this time). Make them all sign a pledge. Then if they renege, I’ll join with non-Democrats to burn them to the ground.

But if one party cheats so effectively (like what they're trying in TX) then elections won't matter anyway. So don't we have to try to stop a mid-decade redistricting cheat?

But why would we want Dems to stop a cheat by also cheating? What if voters don't actually like Newsom surrendering LGBTQ rights and platforming fascists, how will they stop him? In my mind, the current system is untenable because the incentives are so skewed. I don't think there are any shortcuts.

So what would you do to prevent the GOP from cheating it's way to permanent control of the House?

The US has overcome really strong fascist currents before by organizing at the grassroots level and taking direct action. There are many people talking about how this could be accomplished and supporting the public with resources. This video popped up in my feed and reminded me: youtu.be/NPmzs9QHNTU

Organizers back in the day of a powerful Klan and packed-house Nazi rallies in Madison Sq Garden didn't have the benefit of all the resources and knowledge we have access to now. I believe it is well within our power to reclaim the democracy we deserve without waiting for the Dem party to do it.

But then the govt was opposed to the Nazi's instead of like now, when the Nazi's ARE the govt! There are no historic parallels we can draw on but one: fascists only understand hard power; pieties & never ending legal actions have never stopped them

I recommend you Rachel Maddow's podcast Ultra and/or her book Prequel, which will disabuse you of the notion that the govt was not in an existential struggle against fascism from within before and during WW2.
