Ahead of the new school year starting for most England this week, the government has unveiled a package of support for schools to help tackle the behaviour & attendance crisis. The Education secretary is also calling parents/carers to do their part to ensure kids are in school & behaving. 1/3

Finally, support for single-parent families. Many parents are at work before the school day begins, which can make it more difficult to monitor their children. Children frequently exhibit different behaviours at school compared to at home, and this support will be beneficial in bridging that gap.

Data shows the scale of the problems inherited - 7 out of every 30 minutes in the classroom are lost due to tackling bad behaviour. While in the first year in government, Labour had already increased attendance by 5 million days and reduced persistently absent kids by 140,000. 2/3

In my day parents were respected and kids were rarely truants. And, you could get cross with us for bad behavior. I don’t know how many years after I was born (1949) parents decided to let kids rule & have no consequences. The rudeness, lack of consideration for others, only I matter attitude
