The problem with current #StarTrek is the loss of subtext. Everything needs to be text now. The beauty of the past Treks was their stories were imbued with complex and rich subtext.

I know where you're coming from, but also old Trek would regularly end with Kirk or Picard giving a speech that explains the moral message of the episode.
