I want to give some credit to Williams College here: www.science.org/content/arti...
Bravo! If all academic institutions banded together - similar to large law firms - you could fight back/push back this fascism. Before it’s too late! Stand tall, don’t be collaborators.

They're just up the road from me and I commend them for doing the right thing. That said, they are among the top-3 ranked private colleges, in terms of both endowment and academics, in North America. So it's a easier for them: no grad program/international grad students, few major Fed grants
This is what real courage and principals looks like
Yes, but I feel for the faculty losing their research grants.
Sorry to be *that* guy, but we've got a long proud history of higher-ed resistance:
I’m glad they’re pushing back… but the language is all financial, not taking a stand on free expression. Makes me a little skeptical.
Yes, the UC system cannot accept this settlement “offer.” On what planet is a demand that UCLA pay $1 billion to get $500 million back a negotiated settlement? And that’s in addition to the admin’s demanded adjustments to student + faculty policies to meet admin priorities. bsky.app/profile/virg...
Does the statement explicitly state they won’t pay? It didn’t there.
Indeed. It's possible they're going to do the right thing, but UC generally doesn't (see their treatment of protesters), so this might just be an aggressive negotiation posture.
That's why I only attributed to them an ounce. We'll see though!
