The Andy Serkis versions of the Lord of the Rings audiobooks are really, REALLY well done. It's like listening to a very extended version of the films (he does excellent impressions of Ian McKellan, Miranda Otto, Elijah Wood, Billy Boyd, et al., in all their roles).

Always looking for good audiobooks. I recommend any Terry Pratchett book performed by Stephen Briggs. His portrayal of the characters is right on the money.

The Briggs voiced versions are getting hard to find now, sadly. However the current Penguin version of Small Gods is voiced by Serkis so might be of interest to the OP 😊

I should also add that Serkis does a great job too. His accent for the Great God Om (praise him with easily accessible lettuce) is surprising but a lot of fun

He's such a tale guy. He read some Trump quotes as Gollum on Colbert, and it was delightful.

I didn't start listening to these until The Two Towers, tbh. I reread Fellowship of the Ring before realizing these had been released.

Oh, that’s too bad. I read the entire trilogy twice last year, trying to distract/soothe myself in response to current events, or I’d jump in & check it out.

Absolutely agree about Andy Serkis LOTR audiobooks! On a less epic scale, Hugh Fraser's versions of Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot novels are same "listening to the filmed version" experience, because Captain Hastings is reading to you & Fraser does a near-perfect mimic of David Suchet as Poirot.

Andy Serkis seems to be one of the very few bright spots in the rolling disaster that is the Peter Jackson LOTR-verse ~Chara
