Angry about Canadian boots on the ground in the Ukraine? Prime Minister Carney: “Ukraine is on the frontline in the struggle for freedom and sovereignty.” Think Poland in World War 2. Protecting the Ukraine protects us all. #SlavaUkraini #LongLiveCanada thehill.com/policy/inter...

Ukraine is to Russia as Canada is to the US. Minerals and other resources right next door. We are not safe from the regime next door. Let’s help Ukraine now, and not solely for altruistic reasons. We Canadians will need the help if/when the regime next door comes after us.

It’s getting to the point where we might have to. For the most part our support to Ukraine has degraded Russia for pennies on the dollar, however I’m not sure they can lead this fight on their own any longer.

I agree, Wayne. And they’re fighting our fight too, so there’s that.

After the invasion of Poland (but after ignoring the invasion of Austria and Czechoslovakia) England and France declared war on Germany and, thankfully, Canada joined them 7 days later. Canada understands world events. The Ukraine is bravely fighting Russia, who also sits on Canada’s behind:

Shows the proximity of Canada and Russia in the north.

The U.S. entered the war Dec. 1941. Canada entered the war Sept. 1939. Their motivations were different.

Apparently not quite. I wonder what Australia’s timing was as well, since they also declared war on the same day? teara.govt.nz/en/speech/34...

This telegram announcing that the United Kingdom had declared war on Germany was received in New Zealand at 11.45 p.m. on the night of 3 September 1939. At that point New Zealand followed suit, and backdated its declaration to the same moment when the United Kingdom had declared war (9.30 p.m. on 3 September). It has sometimes been suggested that New Zealand declared war ahead of the UK, on account of its time zone being 10 and a half hours ahead of British Summer Time - but this is not true. Two days later, 5 September, Prime Minister Michael Joseph Savage formally announced New Zealand's involvement and affirmed that the country would support Britain in his famous phrase, 'Where she goes, we go; where she stands, we stand.'
