25 years ago, at the Nat'l Middle School Conference, went to a seminar on teaching the Middle Ages to MS students. As a history major who concentrated in Medieval Europe, I was super excited. The materials had dragons and other fantasy stuff in them. Sat through the hour, shaking my head, fuming
this is too often!
I was so mad. I'd been waiting weeks since I saw the seminar come out. It was the thing I was looking most forward to. I love fantasy books, D&D, Sword and Sorcery, etc. But not in a history class. I almost stayed after to talk to them about it, but I was sure I'd get, "we're just trying to grab the
students' interest," to which I'm sure I'd have replied that they're just being lazy hacks and walked off in a huff. So I opted for tactful withdrawal over pitched battle. In my mind, a properly medieval response lol
