Broke: JB Pritzker should be President. Woke: JB Pritzker is President.
Broke: JB Pritzker should be President. Woke: JB Pritzker is President.
While this seems plausible I am a little disquieted that it mentions the NPVIC which no new state has ratified since April 2024
i want to know which other governors are doing this stuff besides pritzker
Healey was mentioned specifically, and Laura Kelly (but no specifics)
but you're right if one is doing it I can't imagine more are not doing the same
i mean the article literally says "multiple governors" and fuck if Laura Kelly is doing this stuff then there's no way the Midwest/New England govs as a collective aren't as well i'm especially interested in the "blocking federal deployments" part, like that's going to become super important!
yeah clearly his sources are with Pritzker and my agenda is feasting but
i have nothing against pritzker in this context, i'm just really hoping he's not the only one because the federal intrusions can only get worse from here Newsom's the only one confronting them outright but that's because he wants to be Shadow President, which i expect will ensure he flops later
every rodeo needs a clown
He might genuinely be the Great Khan based on this and it's breaking my brain a little
it reads like fanfiction lmao but like, it's apparently real?
if Pritzker is doing this i can almost guarantee you that Healey, Hochul, Hobbs, Ferguson, etc all are as well not that it's a race i'm just heartened to see evidence that Pritzker isn't the only one trying
the new england governors had a conference with canadian provincial premiers a couple months ago during the peak of trumps annexation threats
I think it is, in part. Fed's still got a lot of power and corporations will bow to it over state sovereignty. The "maker" states, for example, can't stop income tax flows from individuals to the IRS, which is the kind of capital strike that would actually cause a crisis in DC and Wall Street.
There's a lot of coordinating, sure, and maybe there's an iceberg of strategy and preparation that Trump et al will crash into and crumble, but to me this still reads like a defensive crouch at best and clinging to the Constitution and hoping SCOTUS come to their senses and save us at worst.
He's my preferred 2028 candidate for a reason! Pritzker has managed to expand rights and pay down the debt in Illinois, and has managed to resist what Trump is trying to do without ever sacrificing a single inch of his beliefs in human rights and individual liberty
This all sounds great, but who is this writer and what are the sources?
they've been doing this since December and not a single legacy media outlet has bothered to report it
I'm almost dubious it's real because we're finding out in a guy's substack but the state AGs have been remarkably well coordinated and this would explain it
our 2028 nominee has to be a governor man congress has nothing on this
i think i'd take basically every governor we have (not Polis, Murphy or Lamont) before all but 2 of our senators (Ossoff and Warnock) which is like... kind of insane?
i really want AOC to be by far the leading candidate but rn she just doesn't have the same leverage that state level democrats do. of course with midterms coming up, involving the fate of the federal gov and discontent against the dem establishment, AOC may have a lot of new opportunities ahead.
AOC needs to run for Senate
i know that's the seat she probably should aim for, taking down Schumer will massively benefit the party. But I don't know if I can see any other presidential candidate, besides maybe Pritzker, having what it takes to save the country.
No one person is going to be able to save the country
2020 had a bunch of senators and what is exposed is that 'senator in the minority' makes for very weak lists of accomplishments
it's actually almost funny how many of them ran and then completely fizzled out i can make decent cases for 2-3 of them, but the reality is in a crowded primary there's not a lot of oxygen to go around when the 2 leading candidates have universal name recognition
this man has shown himself to be a fighter, a progressive and a dam good administrator I love AOC, but i am sorry, for now I ride with the Kahn
oh it's very good evidence of the adage, as well as the media's general uselessness bsky.app/profile/faee...
interesting! bsky.app/profile/achi...
why do so many people you quote have me blocked :/
apparently Kris Mayes (AZ) and Nessel (MI) have a podcast??
i'm sorry what the fuck i like Mayes a lot but Nessel? unfortunate
"The media doesn't cover them, social media doesn't amplify them (unless a Dem says something stupid) and no one watches or listens Biden Did The Thing. He did weekly radio addresses. Have you heard of any of them? "Democrats should be doing press conferences with real people"? Media won't cover!
we watched biden bleed from the eye while murmuring incoherently in 2020 and the nyt praised his debate performance
This is why we need a coalition of democracy-supporting capital to start seriously considering media control a top-tier concern. Think blue interstate compacts, external state-sponsors (eu, ca, etc), major foundations, and yes, ideologically aligned billionaires in the mold of Pritzker.
This regime was broadly brought about to fufill the interests of the billionaire and the big corporation. It’s pretty mediocre to shit about delivering on those interests, but expecting the possession to turn against its owner is rather unrealistic at this stage, I feel.
Tbf I don’t think most of the Governors or AGs were exactly rushing to publicize it either for obvious security/opsec purposes…
Blue state Republican parties going absolutely insane has probably helped radicalize them. I'm still mad that Tina Kotek repealed the drug decriminalization and didn't have the state senate Republicans arrested, but dealing with Republicans probably drives her insane.
It makes sense. Why is Newsom so good at trolling Trump? Because he and his staff have spent their entire careers dealing with CAGOP - the fucking bat-shittiest of the batshit Birch Society loons.
As much as I don't want him to be president, Newsom's hatred of elected Republicans does come across as entirely authentic. Which is why I think he might be a good Secretary of Homeland Security or Attorney General.
Van Hollen has been knocking it out of the park, he can stay in until South Carolina and then take SecState.
I heard this mentioned in an interview with a state AG all the way back in February or March
Yup. democraticleader.house.gov/media/press-...
yeah it’s real! There’s been a lot of coordination between state AGs for a long time (blue and red) and they’ve been having these meetings for Trump specifically since before November iirc
even red AGs? (hopeful)
noo sorry what I meant is that there are coalitions of states - a blue coalition and a red coalition - that are often litigants in lawsuits. like the SCOTUS case that overturned the Biden power plant rule was West Virginia v. EPA because a red state coalition incl. WV sued over the rule
I *so* hope you're right. 👍
Yeah, and when I think about the big problem states, the AGs in both (NY and CA) are quite a bit better than the governors.
it's true nationally bsky.app/profile/davi...
MA as well.
Well, I found this article from late February that seems to say essentially the same thing www.politico.com/news/2025/02...
I heard before the election via one of the podcasts (PodSave or the Bulwark?) that Dem govs were strategizing together over this sort of thing in case Trump won. I've been assuming they were quietly doing so all along but it's really nice to see that they are!
I mean, they also may have been deliberately keeping it quiet for excellent reasons
23 states governments worth of sources, you are going to have leaks
I think you're overrating how much the leaks would be to national media.
Also the national media would twist this stuff and basically imply it’s treason. Them knowing is useless and of no benefit.
well yeah, because they don't care
Just a reminder that outside like propublica journalism is actually dead.
I don’t want the fascists to find out tbh
nothing they are doing is illegal, like they are literally just doing what red states have done for years
i mean I don’t want them to know any of the details in order for them to be caught off guard
Yes. It's like the D-Day landings. They didn't advertize them, either. I'm looking forward to 23 states passing very similar legislation within days of each other. And 23 simultaneous lawsuits. Then, 23 more, a few days later. And the recipients won't know what's hit them. Boom. Boom. Boom.
To the contrary, we got a bunch of preemptive postmortems of Trumps second term talking about how "The Resistance is Dead" and whatnot!

This reads so much like fiction my instinct is still to believe it is fiction. But if it’s real, this is the most pumped up I’ve felt in a while
I suspect it’s deliberately on the down low for now.
Interesting you say that. I just moved to Austin for a job DC 1 month ago and this really made me personally depressed.
Stack that up next to Newsom vetoing insulin caps
Cyberpunk civil war
Pritzker is so GOATed
the great khan is blessed with foresight and allies aplenty

This is really good to hear. I hope those pharma stockpiles include abortion medication, HIV meds and vaccine supplies.
