since some changes to the way city council was elected, Portland has three DSA endorsed councilors out of twelve, which isn't too shabby.

and none of them are cranks, either. Mitch Green came and walked the picket line for the New Seasons union when my fiance still worked there
my take is that our deteriorating relationship with AOC is in no small part due to a failure to have the kind of relationship between electoral organizers and electeds, the Socialists in Office relationship described here. You can't rely on politicians to always be Pure of Heart, even the good ones
i think a big part is dsa's deprioritization of puerto rico as an issue which could have imported more communities including the bronx to dsa and increase the leverage towards aoc
on that note, I'm going to organize some more phone banking for the chapter
oop, correction! bsky.app/profile/fisc...
a great article by Portland's Sarah Milner (now of the NPC) on the importance of Zohran's machine and how other chapters can start building what NYC took years to hammer into place. she also challenges the DSA 'left' (R&R, MUG, Red Star) to run their own campaigns instead of backseat driving
Well one of Sarah’s wishes is for Dsa to have 150k to 200k members by the end of trump’s term. Assuming he doesn’t pull some coup shit to abolish presidential terms altogether. So running electoral campaigns, grow Dsa in the community, activist, and organizing area. Could make 200k members real.
man I love Sarah, she even showed up to our general meeting last sunday in our non-air conditioned meeting when it was 90 out
She visited my chapter while she was running for npc. Gotta love a npc member checking in on chapters on a constant basis it seems. Really builds connections between national and local Dsa.
2 of 12 endorsed 2 more that fell short of full endorsement but are DSA members and working with SIOC and attending meeting. Likely all 4 will be endorsed next cycle.
two endorsed, four total members on council fyi
