not to snipe unnecessarily at people who wouldn't vote for Harris over Gaza, their votes didn't actually swing it or come close, but this is why saying 'what's worse than genocide' was a very foolish thing to ask so flippantly

i 100% believe they will partially or completely execute this plan before January 20th, 2029 not voting for Harris because "muh genocide" can and should be regarded as a morally unconscionable act that ought to stain people's reputations for the rest of their lives

Yeah lol, that was an obvious, massive failure of imagination at the time As I think I said last year, you can take just about as critical a view of Biden's Israel/Palestine policy as you want (mine is quite critical!) and it's still trivially true that Trump would be worse

("Trivially" true in the sense that "Trump would be worse than X on Y" is true for all possible values of X and Y, no matter how bad X is on Y)

Joe Biden was in a position to be pressured by Democratic voters, Trump only feels pressure from Republicans and even then barely, what did they think was going to happen

And however heartless you think Biden was about this stuff, Trump is, well, a soulless demon from the pits of hell. That's still worse!

You just really, really don't want to play chicken with world on "surely it couldn't get any worse"

People always say that 🍊 has no opinions on Israel/Palestine, but that doesn't matter as much as the fact that he was always going to surround himself with Christian Zionists like Mike Huckabee.

Something that does, however, deserve the most hatred and scorn you muster are the people who responded to warnings of Trump's mass deportation plan with "i care more about a real atrocity than a hypothetical one" I ran into a lot of that I will never stop being angry about it.

genocide is not a binary thing that happens or doesn't happen, it takes time and opportunity

it can always get worse with Republicans, and especially Donald Trump. if there's a floor, you don't know what it is

Apropos of nothing, but I've taken to not calling them Republicans anymore. The GOP finally died for real fifteen years ago when the tea party dipshits came along as a reaction to the black guy in the white house. I have respect for some Republicans - none for Magas.

I don't particularly feel any need to absolve the Republican party for creating the authoritarian monstrosity that consumed their party. Every step of the way they gleefully fed it more of their own morality and agency, so it's their baby. It should bear their name.

Agreed, but just for clarity's sake is why I do it. Maga ideology isn't Republican ideology anymore, it's a far right reactionary party as opposed to a culturally conservative one

I don't find them meaningfully different; cultural conservatism pretty much always devolves into fasalcism if given enough license. Theirs is the idolatry of the king and sceptre, of slave and master, and it always will be. They were always hungry to become this; it just wasn't so candid.

I guess perhaps it is still coy; they aren't secure enough yet in their ability to control electoral outcomes so they still bother to lie. But they don't care about making the lies taste sweet anymore, and some of their fellow-travellers recognized it and flinched.

To be honest, this doesn't seem that convincing to me. The plan was always to kill or expel them all. The fact that they're calling the end goal the riviera instead of greater Israel is not materially different for Palestinians. The Biden people still won't call it a genocide, neither will Harris...

I can't understand why this is being reported like an actual plan. It's literally just a proposal cooked up by some think tank.

At the time, while I wanted Biden to drop out over Gaza, i found it very suspicious that Netanyahu wanted Trump to win despite the fact that Biden had been very soft handed in controlling him. When people were saying it couldnt get worse, Netanyahu clearly disagreed.
