Any time I worked with PhD ‘s or PsyD’s or Doctorates in Ed., they are referred to as Doctor, in NYC and on Long Island, or risk being fired.

I still do not concur that it is pretentious. Especially if they earned it and defended a thesis. Although I went to an esoteric Freud symposium and the NY Times was there. The reporter started talking to me and when I said I have my Masters, they stopped talking me and sought out a PhD or a PsyD.
