Any time I worked with PhD ‘s or PsyD’s or Doctorates in Ed., they are referred to as Doctor, in NYC and on Long Island, or risk being fired.

It's pretentious
What is? Calling someone with a PhD-doctor?
Yes.
Not in my circles. It is rude not to
I don't travel in pretentious circles.
I still do not concur that it is pretentious. Especially if they earned it and defended a thesis. Although I went to an esoteric Freud symposium and the NY Times was there. The reporter started talking to me and when I said I have my Masters, they stopped talking me and sought out a PhD or a PsyD.
Guess I just came up in a different environment.
