X will be hurting more than migrants soon. Meta and X have set a powerful precedent—and it’s time to use it against them! The recent $25 million lawsuit settlement from Meta and $10 million from X to Trump is a strategic opportunity for journalists, federal workers, and everyday users to fight back.

Page 1. An Open Letter on Meta and X’s Settlements with Trump Create a Legal Opportunity for Federal Workers, Journalists, and Banned Users to Fight Back. Meta and X (formerly Twitter) just set a powerful precedent—and it’s time to use it against them! The recent $25 million lawsuit settlement from Meta and $10 million from X to Donald J. Trump should not be viewed as corporate favoritism alone—it is a strategic opportunity for journalists, federal workers, and everyday users to fight back against the corruption and authoritarian influence of Trump, Musk, and Zuckerberg. Instead of simply reinforcing Trump’s power, these settlements have exposed Meta and X to massive legal vulnerabilities—ones that can now be leveraged against them. Meta and X Just Set a Legal Precedent—Now It’s Time to Use It Against Them. By settling lawsuits they would have won, Meta and X have created a legal precedent that banned accounts can claim financial compensation. If Trump—who blatantly violated platform rules—could extract millions, then why shouldn’t: Federal employees purged under Trump’s anti-DEI initiatives, Journalists silenced by X and Everyday users banned for exposing corruption or challenging extremist narratives. In 2022 alone, X (Twitter) suspended 1.6 million accounts. Between 2012 and 2021, Twitter suspended approximately 14 million accounts, including 7.8 million in 2019. Yet only Trump has received financial compensation for being banned. This is a massive legal opening for others—especially journalists and federal employees affected by Trump’s extremist policies—to seek similar redress. Meta and X’s Payoff to Trump Has Regulatory & Legal Implications. Page 2. Meta’s $25 million settlement and X’s $10 million settlement were not legally necessary—they were politically motivated financial deals that raise serious ethical and regulatory concerns: These companies could have won in court, yet they chose to pay Trump—why? Are Meta and X expecting political favors in return? Will the FTC or DOJ drop their investigations into Meta or X in exchange for these payoffs? If the FTC or DOJ suddenly withdraws their cases against these companies, it will strongly suggest a quid pro quo arrangement. These settlements set a precedent that corporations can buy influence through unnecessary legal payouts. Congress must investigate whether these settlements were legitimate business decisions or politically motivated bribes. Plan of Action: Fighting Back Against Meta and X’s Support for Trump’s Agenda. Mobilize Legal Challenges Against Meta and X. Congress must alert State Attorneys General, the ACLU, and civil rights organizations that a massive legal opportunity now exists to hold X and Meta accountable. Encourage state-led lawsuits on behalf of journalists, activists, and federal workers fired under Trump. If a federal worker was banned from X or Meta for criticizing Trump’s policies, exposing government wrongdoing, or advocating for DEI initiatives, they can now use Trump’s settlement as legal precedent to demand compensation for being wrongfully silenced. Page 3. Organize Mass Lawsuits for Federal Workers and Journalists. Groups of banned users—especially journalists—should now launch lawsuits against X and Meta using the same legal argument Trump did. Trump’s settlements should now be used as legal precedent to force these companies into mass payouts. If Trump was paid for breaking the rules, everyone else should be compensated, too. Launch a Public Awareness Campaign to Expose X & Meta’s Hypocrisy. Meta and X must be held accountable in the court of public opinion. Push for a class-action lawsuit on behalf of federal workers, journalists, and banned activists. Expose the double standard: Trump was compensated for breaking rules, while countless journalists and whistleblowers were silenced with no recourse. Journalists & Public Figures Silenced by X Under Musk’s Ownership. Elon Musk’s X has targeted and banned journalists who exposed corruption or reported on Musk himself. These reporters should now sue X for the same reason Trump did. Here’s a short list of well-known journalists suspended by X (formerly Twitter) under Musk: Ryan Mac (The New York Times). Donie O’Sullivan (CNN). Drew Harwell (The Washington Post). Keith Olbermann. Linette Lopez (Business Insider). Micah Lee (The Intercept). Dell Cameron (Wired). Ken Klippenstein (The Intercept). Jacqueline Sweet (The Spectator World). Travis Kelce’s Father (Ed Kelce). Page 4. The Bottom Line: Trump’s $35 Million Settlement Is a Legal Gift—Now We Must Use It. Meta and X thought they could buy Trump’s favor, but instead, they just opened themselves up to massive legal exposure. Their weakness in settling frivolous lawsuits should now be exploited by the very people they’ve silenced. Call to Action: Immediate Congressional & Legal Mobilization. Encourage Attorneys General to take action against X and Meta for selective enforcement and corporate favoritism. Spread the word to the ACLU, press freedom organizations, and activist groups—they now have legal standing to sue X and Meta. Push for federal workers, journalists, and banned users to file lawsuits against X and Meta using the same legal argument Trump did. Publicly pressure X and Meta to apply their policies consistently—or pay damages to all suspended users. At a time when democracy is at risk, and billionaires are using their influence to support Trump’s authoritarian agenda, it is critical to fight back using every legal and financial tool available. Meta and X must be held accountable in the courts, in Congress, and in the public eye. I urge you to take immediate action and stand against Trump’s corporate allies in their attack on democracy and American citizens. Sincerely, Fighting for Our Democracy.
