The grass stays green here for a long time, even though it's cold enough for water to freeze. I imagine it's the same there

Well, yes and no. Over the last several years, we actually had a couple of winters where it didn't snow until December and was above freezing often. The grass was a lovely beige color in October. Total snowfall was a few inches overall. This year? NOPE!!! Hammered with snow late Oct and brutal cold
