Did I say I’m pro-Newsom? No. I’m very much pro what his team is doing online, though.

If your metric of success is shitposting, yes. Newsom is a great poster. But one's posting skills are not a skillset I want or even need in a president. I'd rather someone tangibly fighting and protecting vulnerable people; not willingly throwing them under the bus.

Newsom isn’t creating these posts — his team is. Making fun of Trump damages him daily, and it’s worth doing. Good strategy.

It's not a subjective thing to agree or disagree with.

Trump has been made fun of since he first announced his candidacy back in 2015. If mere trolling actually worked, we'd be living in a different timeline.

This is directed at Trump, point-blank, by the governor of a powerful blue state. It’s not ordinary trolling or late-night humor. Trump has been a caricature since I first became aware of his existence in the 80s, but he’s never been treated this way.

But Newson is getting under his skin where the other satire just bounced off. I’m willing to allow it. Is it a complete strategy? Of course not.

How does this damage Trump?

It gets under his skin— and more importantly, it shows his dysfunction and madness to the public in a new way.
