I am glad you point out that wikipedia page, as it does also state that in certain alternative math systems. And in some of those systems this isn't true because of infinitesimals.

Yes this equality is true in the context of real numbers. But it's important to note that these are the numbers most people use, and the fact that some guys invented some non-real numbers that behave differently should not be an argument to contest the fact that 0.999...=1.
