Goddamn. Rural people live DIFFERENT. 😆 The first alcohol I really had was homemade vodka my step dad had made in his basement. A buddy and I drank a whole bottle of the stuff in one night. The hangover was unreal. Tasted like shit but it was a good night, just not a good next day 😂
Oh my God, bathtub vodka is a hell of a way to start. 😆 How long was it before you got your eyesight back? We were very very rural people in the 70s. Think "Hillbilly" and you're getting warm. Some crazy crap went on up that road because there were no cops around, they all stayed in town.
Sheesh. My grand parents were immigrants from Ireland and Germany, we were sorta rural farmers who gradually moved to town. I grew up basically sheltered a block away from my school. I didn’t go out much 😅
It was a different way of growing up, that's for sure. Thank god when I was 14 we moved to Seattle and I emancipated myself from the church. Gave me a chance to turn into a real person before it was too late.
I tried to get away but I was dumb af. Ended up living with each of my parents at different times. I never fell into the church luckily, only one of my family members takes it seriously. It’s kinda insane what religion does to people
Oof, that's rough on a kid. I was raised Mormon and to this day I consider myself as having escaped a cult. Live and let live, but that religion is batshit.

Thankfully we weren't FLDS with the polygamy and child marriage and all that shit, but there were some in the area. We'd see their huge family all come into town at once. Exceedingly creepy people. You don't want to know what's behind those plastered on smiles.
I couldn’t be paid to be around people like that, nasty af. I mean I’m fine with polygamy for the most part. It’s not for me but I don’t really care about it though. But the child marriages and incest shit is just insane no matter how you slice it
What got me to emancipate myself was when they started demanding I become a missionary, I was that age. When we moved to Seattle I refused to join the new church and ultimately wound up writing them a formal letter denouncing my own baptism so they'd leave me alone. Super cultish.
