And infrastructure you want to preserve for your own use, so you can't just bomb it all bsky.app/profile/itst...
I've been told by people before that trump would just bomb any resistance, and uhhhh if a regime starts bombing its own cities, that means it is losing.
Maybe. The Kent State Massacre suggests otherwise though bsky.app/profile/your...
Kent State and also Jackson State
"your liberal friend" is definitely wrong, that would be an escalation, jfc i wish people would just say they *want* the fascism as opposed to saying nonsense
100% The erosion of state capacity from the government getting DOGE'd makes pacification harder, not easier bsky.app/profile/moch...
Totally agree. There are just apparently a *lot* of people on Bluesky who think supply chains materialize overnight 😂 bsky.app/profile/mada...
And all those tanks and tank crews and maintenance folk are in DC right now for trump’s b’day parade. It takes planning and personnel to move that stuff and it doesn’t move by itself, there are crews. Crews that need food, shelter, organizing, etc.
Ummm, does no one remember National Guard troops sleeping on the floors of the capital after Jan 6th????
It takes an enormous amount of time and effort to maintain readiness in peace time. Aircraft and other complex machinery will break just sitting on the tarmac. Domestic deployment would be an absolute shit show.
Unfortunately this is a common idea, see “just move manufacturing back to the US”
But no one in MAGA is voting Dem, so that doesn't really help them Meanwhile it antagonizes Ds who stayed home in 2024, and annoys unaffiliateds who just want things to be normal again bsky.app/profile/paul...
Yep. LAPD released a statement on their Facebook page that they are not cooperating at all: www.facebook.com/share/p/16Dk... bsky.app/profile/linw...
To be clear, they’re participating in crowd control and have deployed teams in riot gear. They just aren’t handling arrests of alleged undocumented migrants.
LAPD was tear gassing people yesterday evening. I don't think you can expect much from them.
Oh LAPD will still absolutely terrorize people in the name preserving public order, I didn't intend to suggest otherwise. But there are limits to how much they're going to let themselves be commandeered by ICE bsky.app/profile/schn...
"No one in the country cared" is an odd conclusion to draw from millions of protestors at hundreds of protests across dozens of jurisdictions bsky.app/profile/lisa...
They threw Trump out of office later that year
Also the country kicked him out of office 4 months later, so it wasn’t exactly a winning strategy at the very least.
I don't call Trump "Cheddar Ceaușescu" for nothing 😉 bsky.app/profile/stev...
Let’s not leave out that there are more privately-owned guns than people in this country. Northern Ireland or Gaza this is not.
And at least 34 % of that reason is because it's good alliteration.
I think he built just enough wall for that...

Supremacy Clause immunity. Federal officials in the performance of their duties are immune from state prosecution. See In re Neagle, 135 US 1 (1890) and Idaho v Horiuchi, 215 F3d 986 (9th Cir 2000) bsky.app/profile/news...
From prosecution, okay. But since they are committing crimes, they could legally be shot, at least by cops, right? Not as revenge but to stop them from completing the crime
Arrest them anyway, make them defense themselves in court?
Do you think red states are going to cancel their elections? Do you think they control elections in blue states? What do you envision "there are more red states than blue ones" means for 2026 elections happening? bsky.app/profile/keyo...
I mean, this is basically Bivens claim territory re: 4th amendment violations when they seize a citizen, right?
It'd be funny if they arrest them, tell them their federal IDs look fake, and hold them in jail for a day or two. Won't happen but it ought to
I guess that explains why ICE is so unconcerned about things like laws, public safety, and the Bill of Rights.
Ruby Ridge continuing to haunt us
It sucks so hard at this moment that so much of the states vs federal government canon came from reconstruction/civil rights, making you look to racists if you want to assert a state power to impede federal agents like ICE
Do you have a phone number I can text you at when I’m hyperventilating at night? This thread has been the most soothing thing I’ve read in months 😭
Screaming into the void that the dynamics this time are different. There was a "law and order" backlash from the general public because the sequence looked like 1. Destructive riots 2. Feds show up days or weeks later This time the feds ARE THE DIRECT AND ONLY CAUSE of any rioting.
ol donnie trump is at bottom a retail politician and a sensitive coward, hes not gonna quietly eat the fallout of a bunch of soccer moms getting gunned down on tv
People protested the George Floyd murder by the millions. How many millions protested the fact that Trump sent in unmarked troops to Portland
the same millions? 2 things can be protested at the same time
Good to know
The Moms and other groups took the front line for awhile but I expected the nation to erupt after what Trump did to protesters. I mean Portlanders and Oregonians felt pretty isolated in the end. Trump painted Portland as a sh*thole city and people bought it and justified
No one (well, not enough ones) *in power* cared. That's different.
Translation: "We of the LAPD remember how we got our asses handed to us in the nineties and we know that you remember Rampart and the Sheriffs, so we will not be giving you an excuse to pursue vigilante justice against our officers."
“You can’t oppress our citizens, only we get to do that!”
ICE has the reputation of being staffed by washouts who couldn't hack it as cops or soldiers. They are not gonna want to be bossed around by those rejects.
They already are. I think their statement was largely lip service that meant they’ll be happy to help with putting down any sort of protest or civil uprising - they just specifically won’t help with immigration cases.
I spoke too soon - apparently this morning they told ICE they’re on their own, presumably because there was just too much community pushback. Pretty amazing stuff.
Yeah not that locals would do nothing against protests but I don’t see them betting the farm in the name of supporting the feds on immigration of all things. The feds get to leave, local PDs have to deal with the local political fallout
bsky.app/profile/lore...
Good point. The instinct of “only we get to be authoritarian commandos in this city” is going to kick in.
Boy imagine if we got ICE fighting the LAPD. It would be like Trump vs. Musk, either way we win
one important way this is gonna be different from George Floyd is the local cops aren't really the direct target of the protests for once
Ope .
Why would one believe that
When you're too racist for the ...
ICE has fucked up so bad, they're somehow coming out looking worse than the LAPD.
They cooperated last yesterday in the garment district and last night in China town. They were firing rubber bullets into the crowd. They can lie all they want but it’s 2025 and everything is on video and posted.
Was that LAPD or LASD? two different agencies.
Today was just LASD
Both
Out of ALL the fucking police departments in America 🥴, does the LAPD know who they are?
What’s going to be difficult is when the (morally correct) resistance against ICE threatens property or public safety and the LAPD are asked to step in
It's nice that chiefy is keeping his persyns out of the way of working men and women in their round-up of criminal aliens. And, if The Jars get called out, I'm gonna look for a live feed.
So am I only seeing LASD out there tear gassing protesters? Or is the LAPD out there doing that too, they just won't help with deportations or assist ICE.
Are you making an assumption of effective & strategic decision making on their side?
The surge of voters for Biden compared to last year is a good example of that.
I guess a quasi-permanently forward-deployed Marine Corps has been highly influential to the minds of many Americans
Or they’ve been drinking the Hegseth MANLY WARFIGHTERS ONLY bourbon
If it weren’t very real I would be eager to see how well the military moves with the secretary of defense attacking all the logistics and support capacity.
MARINE stands for My Ass Rides In Navy Equipment for a reason.
I mean, for perhaps a good example to go by, Russia spent years planning an invasion and camped out on the border of Ukraine for a month, and they're still fighting a war that was supposed to be over in three days.
Protests in multiple states happening in random sequence could overstress the apparatus to breaking. Just fade away quickly after and a new protest starts somewhere else...
More overarching to me is that there are so many people in Bluesky who are desperately trying to manifest ways the military will be mobilized to kill all protesters, all the while saying that's a bad thing. Like, what the fuck guys.
Also, where are these ICE guys from? All from the LA area? Prob not, but let's say they are. Is this the same squad that was in fashion district/DTLA yesterday? If they're from Corona or Victorville, is ICE paying for motels? I recall someone (Raskin?) was pressing Noem on going over budget.
The military could barely pacify Kabul, at tremendous cost in lives, money, and munitions That was only ~4M people, and much looser rules of engagement The military won't be able to pacify Los Angeles @unroll.skywriter.blue @unroll.bsky.social Unroll please
on a practical level, but also in the sense that there are a huge number of recently unemployed people who hate this administration
Smart people who are familiar with the inner workings of the govt. Trans CIA agents. FBI agents who did jobs assigned to them but that involved Trump, oh and a couple of highly ranked generals too. Legit all the best ppl who were in the govt.
De-Baathification worked so well in Iraq! Why not here?
Kent state did not result in general protests. Mody sided w/LEO. Also, 4 students died. 5 cops on buildings with ARs could do significantly more damage to a large protest. I hope it doesn't come to that, but we are dealing with unhinged people in office.
Yeah it did and nixon even had to bring an airborne unit into DC because the riots were getting so nasty
If 100 people get mowed down we'll start to see how many people oppose this and own guns. They may try it, but I think it would be the beginning of the end.
If they kill 100 people in LA, it will result in a tidal wave of anti-state violence. The protests will turn into Angelenos dragging cops out of their cars and ripping them to pieces lol
The public blamed the protesters for Kent State, though.
If *the government* guns down 100 civilians I think it's more likely that officials even remotely connected with that event would be at risk of assassination, or having their homes firebombed. I doubt Americans would just go home and sit quietly. And we have a lot more guns than we did in 1970.
Oh but it’s already been “shut down” by the courts, so the danger is over. Great job, everyone!
This isn't MOVE in Philadelphia!
What's the remedy to agents provocateur like proud boys types infiltrating crowds & escalating? Like the boogaloo boys did in 2020. They killed cops, set the cop precinct on fire & everything got blamed on "antifa". The optics of "the resistance" are awfully fragile, susceptible to bad faith actors
I'm not sure they're bright enough to figure that out ahead of time.
